Contractions...(or something like them..) but only at night??

Hello all, first baby 36 + 5 weeks and last three nights have i'd very painful things that feel A LOT like how I'd imagine contractions, like period painy back ache accompanied by downwards pressure and twingy pains that come and go in waves, woohoo I think - we're on the move how exciting! But no they seem to start at about 7 30pm carry on through until 3 30 am/4 am before easing off and pretty much staying eased off through the day, until the next evening... Anyone got any experience?

I feel for you here as I have the same thing and each night start wondering if it is time. Try and have a hot water bottle on your back and relax - easier said than done especially as it stops you sleeping. It is sooo fustrating not knowing exactly when things will happen. I have been vomiting a lot in the evenings too so sometimes wonder if the pain is caused by that.

Candr, vomiting and back pain could be signs of a kidney infection so might be worth getting it checked at your GP.

such a pain, I'm worried I have a kidnery or water infection or something.. lets hope a knowledgable person wanders in to give us some advice!

GeneralDisarray if you have no other symptoms then unlikely to be kidney or UTI ut you could always go and get your urine tested if you're worried. Just sounds like your body gearing up for labour though. They say BH aren't painful but apparently lots of women find that they are (and I think hormone levels are higher at night which is why a lot of people go into labour at night).

I was at MW 2 days ago and urine etc all checked out fine, maybe it is just BH we have been having. Have bad heart burn which I think explains the vomiting but have felt queasy in the mornings before I eat like back in first 12 weeks. Sending you hugs GD

I'm getting exactly the same thing - and also am 36+4. Third pregnancy, and am very glad of that because I know these are not real contractions! I've had them 2 nights running - kept me awake most of one night, second time it was more evening only, so I got some sleep. I'm convinced they are false labour/BH. I've not had then before, and as they go away for many hours, I'm not too worried they are the start of labour. Though I did go and book a TENS machine after the first lot .... and started to pack my hospital bag (yes, leaving things a little late maybe!)

If you are worried, can you call your midwife? I'm due to go to my local MLU and I have their triage number to call, very useful and reassuring it is too! They might ask you to go in for monitoring to see if they are "real" contractions, they might be able to reassure you over the phone.

Hi ladies, this just caught my eye as I had exactly the same 4 months ago! It started about 2 weeks before my due date and I ended up going a week overdue! I kept getting excited thinking is this it?! But after a few hours it would all stop. I asked my midwife and she said it's called latent stage of labour, things softening and moving. Apparently some ladies don't feel it, some do and it can last days or weeks! Most unhelpful I know! She said it can make labour shorter though as your body has done a lot of the work-my labour was 7 hrs! Good luck with everything!

ahh damn it! I was hoping it was happening, well at least I know it's not unusual! BH not hurting clearly massive myth!!!
