How long did it take you to lose the baby weight?

I went from 130lbs to 173lbs while pregnant. Seven weeks later I weigh 148lbs and am just starting to think about losing the baby weight. I wondered how long should I expect it to take? And does breast feeding help? I am hoping it will make the excess weight melt away - I am more than bored of my maternity dresses but nothing else fits!

1 year with ds1. 1 year with ds2. Still waiting for ds3's poundage to shift and he's 4.

I put on 3 stone (went from just under 9 stone to just under 13) and it took exactly 7 months to lose it all. I think EBF and lots of walking helped. DS is now 15 months old and I'm half a stone less than I was before I got pregnant, which I put down to running around after him, the fact I'm still BFing and that he tends to just help himself off my plate!

Oops, sorry, it's late and I'm a bit thick- I meant just under 12. Blush

This is not what you want to hear, but about 6 weeks. I didn't put that much as I couldn't eat very much while I was pregnant, so I only put on about 21lb. I breast fed as well and was religious about doing my exercises once the midwife said it was safe to do so.

I lost most of the baby weight within about 8 or 9 weeks which I was amazed about. However due to problems with bf, expressing, worrying etc. and probably the cold weather I started to comfort eat and am now on Weight Watchers (dd is 10 months old!).

DD is 14 weeks and I currently weigh less than pre-pregnancy. It just fell off, which is a stark contrast to after having DS which took 18 months! I've not even thought about diet or exercise, think it's down to EBFing and walking lots with the pram despite the fact I am ravenous all the time!

I suppose this extra weight is my payback for escaping morning sickness. I don't regret putting on so much weight as i loved every moment of my pregnancy. But I can't afford to buy a whole new wardrobe. I think I might join weight watchers!

I had DC 2 years ago and am due again in October - I never lost the weight I gained inbetween but I'll be dammed if I don't lose it after this next one!

I put on 3 or 4 stone each time I was pregnant. After DC1 I lost all but 7lbs after about 6 months without much effort, same story again with DC2, but now a stone heavier than I started. After DC3 my weight stopped going down when I was 2 stone heavier than pre pregnancy weight so 3 stone to lose in total Shock. For some reason after DC3 it didn't go away on it's own like it had before, was bf all 3.

When DC3 was about 3 months I started weightwatchers online, with it's generous bf allowance and have very slowly lost 2 stone, 1 to go. DC3 now 8 months.

With DS I put on about 4 stone. Had lost it all and more by the time I got pg with DD, which was when DS was 13 months.

With DD I put on another 4 stone. Lost about 3 stone by the time she was about 1 but it hung around (and put more weight) which I didn't lose until she was about 4

Agree that lots of walking and EBF really help. With DD1 I can't remember exactly how long it took but within 3 months I was thinner than I'd been in years to the point I've agreed not to let it go that far this time as I looked gaunt. DD2 is now 2 weeks old and I've lost 1.5 stone of the 2 I put on. DD has put on a lb already though! And my boobs are knackered!

About 3 months for me. Bfing did help to the point where with DS I was struggling to keep weight on, but there again he was a complete milk monster. Plus we lived on top of a really big and steep hill so I used to walk to the shop at the bottom about 3 times a week and then have to push the pushchair, baby and shopping back up.

Agree that BF and lots of walking help.

I didn't weight myself much so couldn't tell you exactly when I had lost it all. I weighed myself when I came out so I knew I had 9 kilos (19/20 pounds?) to lose. After that I just went on how my clothes felt - by 5 months I was slimmer than virtually any other point in my adult life! EBF a 99th centile DD probably did most of it, but I walked everywhere with the pushchair, started back at the gym at 3 weeks and running at 9 weeks. I ate what I liked but didn't go too potty. Then I went back to work at 6 months, and then stopped bf at 8months....and kept eating biscuits at work. I did put 4/5 lbs back on but plenty of exercise stopped it there.

Posie - do you mean 6 stone to 12 stone Shock? I assume you were underweight before? That is amazing!! I don't think my heartburn would allowed me to do that even if I tried Grin.

Sorry if that sounds rude - not intended to be. I am 5 ft 10 so I was nearly 13 stone (from just over 10) by the end, so I am not implying 12 stone is that large - just the difference between the two is....erm....big!

It's okay I was underweight, I should be about 8st!! And so I went from barely eating to eating 'well' and then my body waking up to hunger, food and fat. It was starved and so really wanted to fatten up. I have been under six stones too...sticky out ears and bulging eyes, night sweats and so on.

I realise that some of the pregnancy weight is down to the baby and amniotic fluid, but to put on several stone as well must mean that you are eating a lot more. By the time I was heavily pregnant I felt full after a few mouthfuls because my baby took up so much of my stomach space.
