he's seeming way to comfortable. no movements, he was 3/5, but now it's looking like he's popped back up again, am currently 39 w DS had been born by now, can only really sleep properly on my right side (not good I know) MW says I can have a sweep next week if needed but only after i'm over.

consultant next friday (which coincidentally is also the day i'm apparently going to pick up my keys for my new house.)

DP has isssshooos over dtd, ie he thinks my waters may go mid flow so that's out the question, walks are not really working, as have been on the go since friday and nada big movements but not action stations.

oh & not liking pineapple, or hot curries - just really really not wanting a big baby, ie 9lb plus. :(

davidtennantsmistress · 15/08/2011 09:59

oh no he's been moving about this morning - not kicking but I can feel moving, just meant as in no movements for labour.

not tried it as not overly keen - maybe I should have done, with DS I had the tea & was on the ball.

i've been doing the long walks, the heavy lifting (prob shouldn't have done) mum says it's looking solid. not uncomfortable per se (apart from night times) just want this baby out now damn it. :o

It's really unlikely your waters would go while having sex - a penis isn't that sharp! :) You could try giving him oral sex - they say the active thing is in the sperm. I'm sure he couldn't object to that Wink

At 39 weeks I'd guess you might have a long wait, even if your DS was born by now. You know they say big babies are easier to give birth to? Apparently they pretty much do it by themselves.

I don't think side matters for sleeping. Have you thought about what kind of birth position you want? Upright (if you raise the bed right up so it's in sort of a sitting position and then lean over) can be good for big babies too, because gravity can help. Or have you thought about a waterbirth?

davidtennantsmistress same here. 39+5 today. I am SO sick of this! Went from 4/5 engaged three weeks ago to 1/5 last week (I mean, how? How is that possible?!) I need this baby OUT, I'm going out of my tiny mind I'm so bored!
DH won't even entertain DTD, I don't much like curry, can barely walk with my SPD. bleurgh!
Also can't sleep as when I'm comfortable in bed, she's not and kicks and wriggles until I move. Then I'm not comfortable.
MW won't sweep till 40+5 :(
I hoped I'd feel better for a rant... Nope!

I know bertie, I did smile when he said that sat night- along with seriously my darling, even if you were a grand national sized winner you still wouldn't reach to break them - but think it's an issue he's got - was happy before this is only a recent development. ref the oral am happy with that but not the swallowing bit, and I hear you have to swallow?

preferably will be giving birth on all 4's/up right, not laying down thou mostly as I can't breath properly when on my back. partly I know bubs will come when he's ready but also it's like, enough already now baby come on out you come. :)

god jen, feeling your pain, I asked for one next tues (due date) and she said you can ask as i'm not here, but we don't like to do it on the day we prefer to wait a few days after, i'll be asking on tuesday and camping out I think until they agree to do it in the office lol.

Yeah I think you have to swallow. Make like Michael MacIntyre's wife and tell him to wank in the tea.

:o awww bless him I think if I did that he'd have one, we had issues over the w.e at him feeling the 'pressure' of me trying it on all the time (ie wanting the baby out) and apparently men don't like to feel like they're only there to help get the baby out. :o

Hmm, I thought that sex worked because the prostoglandins in sperm opened the cervix? Isn't that why they use pig sperm in the jelly they use for inductions? I wouldn't have thought swallowing would work.

JenniferYellowHatsRedLingerie- just checked definition in my green notes - 1/5 is more deeply engaged than 4/5.
1/5 = deeply engaged, as hardly still palpable from above
4/5 = sitting on the pelvic brim

I'm 40w + 3, and really thought it was going to happen last night, was getting mildish contractions, took a paracetamol and tried to get some sleep, and then it all stopped!

Someone else told me a blow job would do it, but I don't see how, surely the prostaglandins would be broken down in your stomach?
See, I've got too much time on my hands to think about stuff!
A number of people have said to me that a good self-ministered orgasm will shift things along too - gets your uterus contracting, endorphins released, that sort of thing. Worth a try if you ask me. If it doesn't work, at least YOU'RE getting some fun Grin

iskra · 15/08/2011 10:25

Definitely try orgasm for you. I think the semen has to be applied to the cervix I'm afraid...

Report
davidtennantsmistress · 15/08/2011 10:28

:o see that bit's fine, it's him ahem, dtd and finishing Blush so the sperm never gets near the cervix never mind on it. the nipple stimulation works to help the BH's or at least tightening, but I guess having a beached whale next to you is hardly attractive.

AGreenie I'm really confused now. I asked the MW if that meant she'd moved out of my pelvis when she said she was 1/5 and she said yes, then I said are you sure you don't mean she's 1/5 palpable, and she said no! I don't have definitions in my notes.
Oh well. 40 wk appt on Wed. I'll just do some crying and begging for a sweep. Or a CS :)

Lol - I think if I suggested dtd dh would be delighted, whatever the reason behind it! Grin

Sorry, can't really help. I know the feeling though. I'm 34w+4 with twins and can't wait to not be pg anymore. I think I managed the "blooming" stage for about 2 days of the whole pg!

Report
ceebie · 15/08/2011 13:40

Sorry but IMO it has to be re-visiting the DTD option. Worked for us!

Don't know much but surely waters breaking is unlikely? The whole point is to get the plug breaking down? (desperately trying to remember how any of it works)

For us we DTD, went to sleep, first contractions in small hours of morning.

iskra · 15/08/2011 14:54

If you haven't been having sex recently it's more likely to work too - shock to the system & all that! With DD1 we were having sex daily, & she still managed to stay in there until 40 + 14. I think you might have to insist on him doing his duty - stand up for England & all that.

I feel your pain, I'll be 37 weeks on Sunday and Operation: Get the Hell Out of Me officially begins - I figure it'll take 2-3 weeks for whatever I do to take effect.

Raspberry leaf tea won't induce labour but it helps tone your uterus which can make it work more effectively once labour does start. The plain tea is fairly dire but most health food shops do a teabag version with apple and raspberries add to the raspberry leaf which make it sweeter.

Sex is supposed to work because semen has prostaglandins in it which encourage the cervix to soften and dilate. Swallowing it also has the same effect. If your OH won't DTD though then an orgasm, either with or without his help, can do wonders because it makes your body release oxycontin, aka the labour hormone.

Nipple stimulation apparently makes the uterus contract and this can turn into proper contractions, it also makes labour-starting hormones build up. It takes more than one session because it has a cumulative effect and from what I've been told it's not just a case of giving then a quick tweak. You have to stimulate them in a way that simulates an infant feeding for around 20 minutes per nipple a few times a day. No idea if it works but there's plenty of people on Google with theories about it.

Avoid:

  • pineapple: yes it contains a version of one of the chemicals involved in labour but you'd need to eat around 20 pineapples whole including the core, the peel, and the leaves in order to get enough of that chemical. And your body processes the chemical really quickly so by the time you eat the 20th pineapple all of the chemicals from the first ten are gone. Pointless. Tasty, but pointless.
  • curry: mmmmmmm, but not worth the heartburn (that's my opinion anyway!)
  • castor oil: in the words of my consultant when I was pregnant with DS - "idiotic, foolish, and reckless". Has the unpleasant side effect of inducing the runs with a risk of baby becoming distressed due to a drop in maternal blood pressure.

Reflexology worked a treat with me and it is incredibly relaxing too.

Also being engaged/not engaged doesn't mean a thing. DS wasn't engaged and he arrived exacty on his due date, he didn't engage at all until I was 6cm dilated.

I'm the same - 39+1 today and can't wait.

As she was mearusing my bump at my 38 week appointment, mw casually remarked:

'so...plenty of sex, plenty of orgasms, plenty of nipple stimulation. And you don't need a man for the last two.' !

I did two mins of nipple stimulation the other day and got bored.

Apparently curry is only to give you the runs so you're clear for the baby to fit through.

I've got a sweep booked for two days over (next Tues) and a reflexology appointment booked for next Fri. The reflexologist insist I have someone on standby while I'm having the treatment, as apparently 'things can happen very quickly'. I'm hoping so, just annoyed I didn't ring him last week to get an appointment sooner.

Hate to break it to you ladies, but if any of this stuff worked, no-one would be induced for being post-dates (coming from someone who gave in to induction at 40+15)

I feel your pain I'm 40+3. DS was born after induction and subsequent cesar at 40+15 so know what I'm in for which makes it worse I think. Booked in for a sweep at 40+5 days. Cant see it doing much it didnt last time Hmm

Tried long walks, bouncing on gym ball, pineapple, rasberry leaf tea and sex all so far to no avail.

Good luck! :)
