Pregnancy

Could I be pregnant? advice needed

Hello all,
I've been feeling under the weather the past week, and a friend of mine today suggested I did a pregnancy test as my symptoms were similar to hers during the early stages of her pregnancy.
I took a test this afternoon, it was a test that showed one line if negative and two if positive. It took a while but eventually two lines came through. However one (the negative line) came through a lot darker than the second line.
I took another test tonight to be sure, and I did this one in a rush and this was one where there was a cross for positive and line negative, a line showed so I waited about a minute then threw it away.
I'm worried I didn't wait long enough. I'm just confused as one test showed positive and one showed negative and I've read that false positives are very rare. Just wondering what people think I should do? I have another test, should I do another one in the morning or shall I wait for a while longer? I'm attending a wedding tomorrow so would like to know beforehand because of drinking etc.
Many thanks,
B x

Sorry - I should add that if I am pregnant I will only be about 2 weeks - 3 weeks max.

How many days late are you?

From what I understand, it is possible to get a false negative, but not a false positive, so it sounds as though you could be pregnant. It doesn't matter if one line is paler than the other. The important thing is that you read it within the prescribed time frame.

My last period was 3 weeks ago, so if I am pregnant it would be very early.
Yes, that is what I have read about false positives. I read the positive in the time frame, but it did take a while to come through, about 5 minutes. I didn't leave the second one that long, only about a minute. I don't know whether to do a test in the morning or wait for a while longer as it may be too early?

ok....

"2 - 3 weeks pg" do you mean 2-3 weeks since last period or 2 - 3 weeks since probable conception (so 4 - 5 weeks pg)

False positives are very very rare..... if there were 2 lines it found some of the hormone which = being pregnant, although an evaporation is apparently possible.
(I never had any sort of 2 lines on any -ve pg tests, and those early very feint lines grew stronger over time)

You should keep tests for 10 mins before binning i think, you could find it and have a look to see if there was a +

Oh and most tests even when "very" positive, the second line is fainter than the control line

i tested regularly during weeks 4 - 8 and never had a line as dark as the control line and the lines were normally thinner too.

best do another test in the morning and read at 5 / 10 mins.... if even a hint of 2 lines, then yes you are pg!

If your period was 2 - 3 weeks ago you are unlikely to get a +ve pg test yet, although i got my 1st (very feint) positive test at 3weeks 3 days after last period

Yes, my last period was 2-3 weeks ago. I thought this was too early to test, but my friend who advised me to take a test took one at 3 weeks which I why I decided to take one today.
I think I will take another test in the morning as there were definitely two lines on the first test. Can testing to early provide false positives or not?

As Littlefish said, a positive is a positive.
They advise testing with your early morning urine at an early stage as the urine is more 'concentrated' with the hormone (as you drink less and wee less overnight due to sleep), but a weak positive is still a positive.
Test again am if it will help firm it in your mind. You might want to try a different type of test, like Clearblue, if you're still unsure.
What brand of test was it?

I can't remember the name of the brand. I think I will do one again in the morning to be sure as like you said, a positive is a positive.

i got a +ve with a cheap ebay test BEFORE my first responce 6 day early test.

my friend got a +ve on a tesco cheapy, and the next day clear blue digital said not pregnant.

so just cause an expensive test says you are not pregnant, doesnt mean you are not, if a cheapy says you are!

Yeah both of my tests have been cheaper brands, the cheaper being the +.

Wait a week, then test again with early morning urine.
Until then consider yourself pregnant.

Desist, ladies, desist!

Hope you get the answer you are hoping for.

Ive always found cheap tests more responsive then the more expensive brands.

Positive is a positive. As soon as you wake is the best time to re test.

Thank you for all the advice. I will try again in the morning. I know it may be too early but if a positive showed earlier today than maybe it isn't too early to try again tomorrow.

How bizarre.

As false positives are so rare, I would still retest in a week or so.
Or see your Gp to see if they would do a blood test.

What result were you hoping for, BL?

Hi, sorry if this post isn't in the right place, it is the first time i've ever used this site.
I'm looking for advice because I feel i might be pregnant- enormous, sore boobs, waking at night to pee, hot flushes and my last period only lasted three hours (normally last 4 days) but i have taken six tests in the last month, all negative. Could i still be pregnant or is this wishful thinking?

Implantation bleeding could account for a 3 hour period. But 6 negative test does sound quite conclusive. Is your next period late yet?

nannyl you have just put my very addled mind to rest - I couldnt decide if the slightly fainter line was a bad thing till I read your post, despite DBF buying me four tests and laughing every time they were positive :)

BL1234- I did a test about when you did, I have a very faint positive line and then nothing, ive used a variety of tests the last few days (see above) and if it helps at all the morrisons ones were the first to show a positive, I tested last week when I was due and got negatives, over the last day or so I get a positive line within the first ten seconds, so maybe if you can bear it give it another week?? I have also had three big weekends of drinking which is naughty but if you dont know you dont know

Oh and online friend Ive read a lot about negative tests becoming positive when the doctor takes bloods? they are more sensitive apparently

Dear BL1234, really sorry have just understood that by posting my question under yours i was 'hijacking' your thread (my friend has just explained etiquette of such things to me). I didn't realise this and do apologise. Won't do it again

I managed to test negative with DD2 and DS for 2 weeks after my period was due. Said negatives have just turned 6 and are 23m.

I'd say it's very unlikely you got a false positive the other day, you may just need to wait until you are due for the HGC level to have raised sufficiently. Cheapy tests were the best i found too, forget digital!!

BL1234 have you retested yet? the 1st test you done with the two lines and one being very faint, if you are preg but very early the 2nd line tends to come through very faint but a line is still a line if that makes sence? when you retest try do it 1st pee in the morning, they say that is more accurate.. goodluck
