Is this the onset of labour or am I being a wimp?

I'm 37+5 (nearly 38 by my dates :) ) and for the last two days I've been having really bad pains up to my cervix which feel like I'm being stabbed with a knife and that I'm 'stretching'. I also have backache and uncomfortable BH's.

I've had the feelings I've discribed above on and off for the past three weeks, but they seem to be getting worse now. Last night we even started timing them (around every 15-30 minutes) but they didnt wake me last night I've been fine today - up until the last hour.

Is this normal and I'm being a wimp? It's just that all the books/magazines I've read say it's damn obvious when labour starts - so I really don't think it has ... but I thought I had a really good pain threshold ... yet by 10pm last night I was in tears :(

If anyone can help this first time mummy-to-be I'd really appreciate it!

Ooooh Valiant1! Really? I just thought I was being a wuss!

Hot water is on ready for bath

DH meantioned ordering a take out this morning (surprise surprise!) :)

and walking around the house seems to help!

Better finish packing my hospital bag! (even if I am weeks off ... I guess my bag should be packed already - woops!)

Have been getting this for the last 2 weeks. I am due tomorrow, also my first baby. Some days they are really bad and I think "this must be it" and then the next day I get none! I have a sweep booked for monday so hoping that will move things along!

I've been getting this for about 2 weeks too. I'm now 39+5 with dc3 and still no baby!
Even though the discomfort has been keeping me awake at night it's still not bad enough to know I'm in labour.
With my experience of the first 2 dcs, when it actually turns into labour there will be no doubt!
