Hi there

I'm 22yo, have a beautiful 9.5mo girl. And her daddy and I have always wanted a big family,
He's 5 yrs older, we've been together 5yrs and have just moved into our new house.

I had a brilliant first pregnancy, and great first labour. Our daughter is so good, very content and happy,
We would love to have another next year (me being pregnant either this year or next)

I have some thoughts...

  1. I am in the process of setting up a business. Which is going to take yrs to establish properly.
  2. Being pregnant with a then 1.5yr old. And how she'd feel

Anyone else who has a small child and wants another ?

Hi Dozey

I have an 11 month old and am 3 months along with DC2 so I am already ahead of you with this.

I'd say do whatever you think would be right for you and your family. Do you think that the business will be flexible enough to allow you to care for 2 DC and / or allow you to take maternity leave?

Only you (and your DP) can make the decision but I think my decision to have DC2 was right for us. Age is also a factor you are very young so putting off anothe rDC might be an option

I have 6 year old 4 year old then the last two are 2 and 1 i am 11 weeks pregnant so have been pregnant with a baby under 1 for the youngest three.
I have enjoyed it in general although this final pregnancy wasnt planned so it has taken a bit to come to terms with it! It would be foolidh to say it hasnt impacted the attention that i have given the older one, of course it has BUT they have also gained alot as well and i would say that bar the odd chaotic day etc we actually seem to be getting on well.

We run a business which we set up while pregnant with dc4. I dont think i would go back and change things now even though i have my wobbles.

Me too - DS was 10 months old when I got pregnant with DD. They're now 5 1/2 and nearly 4 and they're brilliant together. It was hard work at first, but I'm so glad I did it that way. We're now expecting DC3. I say go with your gut - and get a good double pushchair!!

poweredbypepsi what business do you do?

Yeah we definitely will have another next year I hope. So pregnant this year or early next.
I kept having august in mind for a may edd.

My business is in its early days, and is going to take a while to pick up.
I am due back at my part time job next month but not sure if I will reuturn, I might just
Keep at my business... The only thing Is that I won't get mat pay working for myself..
But I'm not sure I will if I return to my job as I will only be doing like 2 mornings.

Decisions :(

Return to job or continue building business?
Ttc now or wait until next year?

I'm ever so broody, and love being a mum. I enjoy every minute :)

How did you find having a newborn with a smal dc? Also not sure how I'd go about breastfeeding as I am still bf my dd 9.5mo

I stopping bfing my ds when he was 10 1/2 months, and was pregnant a fortnight after that! I decided early pregnancy and bfing would be a bit much. I think when you have a new baby your milk changes - so you get colostrum to start off with. I don't know too much about it, but there are people on here who do.

I was self-employed too when I had my second. I worked right up until my due date and got Maternity Allowance - about £100 a week for 9 months - not much less than SMP. Look here for info about MA.

I had an 8 month old and wanted another, fell pregnant straight away and it turned out to be twins who were then early so I had 3 kids in 15 months :)

hi, dd was about 6months old when we started trying for ds, theres 17months between them. i stopped breastfeeding when i was a couple of months pregnant with ds. v.v. hard work having them close 2gether and knackering pregnancy, but well worth it as theyre so close and makes some things much easier as for example they play with the same toys etc

my two boys are now 11 and 9 and there was 18 months between them and I think its a great thing a small age gap. My dd is 14 weeks and I am 7 weeks pg with the new baby! puppy coming tomorrow and I have three ste children 3, 6 and 11 who stay with us for up to a month at a time. mad or brave you decide ;) I do like the small age gap though! Good luck with whatever you decide
