I don't know of anything that will cure it save anti fungal cream. I'm not sure the advice you've been given is correct - there are lots of ladies on here who get thrush in pregnancy and they are allowed canesten cream to treat that. It doesn't make any sense to say you can't also put it on your feet.

Clearly if a pharmacist has told you that it's not safe then it would be completely wrong for me to suggest otherwise but I'd try phoning the practice nurse at your GP surgery if you have this triage type service and asking them because the advice you've been given doesn't accord with other people being told canesten is ok.

I'm sure you know that it must be treated. It will spread and can cause an infection if left. I left an attack at about 13 and you should have seen the state of my feet.

I really sympathise.

the pharmacist probably is not allowed to sell it to you, but I'm sure a doctor will give you a prescription.

Use deodorant and the athletes foot talcum powder. If you aren't allowed that get normal. Get the athletes foot spray for your shoes as they need treatment too. I had it when I was pregnant and it was the pits.

I'd listen to the pharmacist over the doctor! The pharmacist is trained in drugs, while the doctor is trained in people. No offence, doctors! There's a reason pharmacists check all prescriptions before they are dispensed and have legal responsibilities in relation to dispensing of medication...
By all means go back and ask another pharmacist or question the original pharmacist again to make sure you know exactly what he/she is saying (for example it may be as itsallgoingtobefine says) and why, but I'd certainly not be revisiting a doctor who said a pharmacist was "silly"...

Hi,

Listen to what your GP prescribes! I had athletes foot two months ago and the pharmacist at Boots said I couldn't use anything - so tried the natural route, bathing in Apple Cider vinegar (it didn't work!). After a few weeks it got so bad I had a nasty crack between my toes so went to the doctor who precribed Dactarin (after checking in her medical book to be sure and she also said to double check at the pharmacy, which I did (it wasn't Boots this time) and the pharmacist said it was fine.

Started using it but it was too late as a few days later my right foot went really hot and painful and doubled in size. Although the skin had healed infection had already got in and I got cellulitis - it was so bad I could not walk or even put my foot on the floor without immense pain. The Dr prescribed me with low dose anti biotics, which I ended up having to take for 2 weeks (at one point I was threatened with an IV drip if it didn't improve). I was upset at having to take the anti-bs but midwife said they were fine and preferable to the infection. So, I would use athletes foot treatment as you really don't want to end up with what I had! (I was probably about 32 wks then, if that makes a difference).

I've since gone to see a chiropodist and he said to manage athlete's foot make sure you thoroughly dry your feet/in between your toes. Bathing your feet in salt water is good too but I really would recommend nipping it in the bud with the cream asap. I often get athlete's foot in the summer (chriopodist said once you have it you always will) but never had it this bad and think it must be down to pregnancy lowering my immune system.
