First trimester and feeling fat

I am 9+3 and already feeling so fat and frumpy - and quite sorry for myself in the process (!), especially as I keep reading that so many people lose weight or stay the same in the first trimester...?

Fit into just a couple of my more 'stretchy' jeans, but constantly feel bloated, my boobs are enormous - and even most of my pants are tight! Feel like everyone at work is thinking how fat I look (haven't told anyone bar a couple of very close friends there)

Is it normal to feel this way at this stage in the first trimester?

Snap!! I'm only just 7 wkd and I already feel horrid!! My boobs are huge & my clothes feel uncomfy!! Angry! I got married just a week before we conceived so I have gone back to eating normally, but I'm not eating rubbish or too much!! I'll be happier when it's obviously "baby"!! Right there with you!!Grin

Good to know I'm not the only one! Trying to work out how much is 'natural weight gain' or bump vs. the extra food I've been eating to keep nausea at bay.

Seems the only thing I can sometimes eat is carbs and the sight of salad (and any poultry whatsoever) makes me feel sick!

Very true tea and toast is what I've found helps when I feel sick, which is all the time!! Not actually been sick just feel horrid!!

Fruit is going down very well with me. Have you tried any? Grapes are good coz there wee and juicy!!

Luckily I work from home so I live in my jammie bottoms!! You could try that!! Wink would your work mind?? Hehe

Jammie bottoms - just jammie :) - am jealous! Can't work from home unfortunately, just gagging to tell everyone so I can stop breathing in every time I stand up!

Fruit is fine some days and other days I just don't fancy it. Eating lots of Nairns oatcakes, toast, noodles and things...

The friends I've told say I don't look pregnant (I think they're just being nice) but clothes don't lie and unfortunately neither does DH who said a new dress I bought accentuated my new 'wider' figure. He tried to take it back but it was too late and set me off with this post!

This is exactly how I was during my pregnancy, however I found it was quite early when I started looking obviously pregnant not just fat so although it was tough for a few weeks, it was loads better further down the line!

yep this happened to me too. I totally lost my waist in my first trimester and also stopped any exercise so rounded out quite a bit.

rest assured that any minute now the 'extra' will move to the front and will look quite clearly like a baby (12-16 weeks)

Don't worry about it.

I think we retain a lot of water to start with which doesn't help. Plus I was ravenous all the time for carbs carbs carbs... It was good though as this kept my sickness under control.

I put on most of my weight on 1st trimester. 2nd trimester I put on hardly anything extra. Only 2/3 weeks ago (now at 35 weeks) I seem to be gaining about 1 pound a week and even that seem to have slowed down.

Jut enjoy the months before you get big and cannot move much ;)

Thanks for all the comments, really helpful to hear from those who've been through it before. Moomsy - I am exactly the same at the moment about eating carbs, can't seem to get enough!

Hi Ladies,

I feel so much better by reading this thread! I am 8 weeks now and had to stop wearing trousers as they just don't fit as other items of my clothing.
My DH keeps saying that belly starts to show but in fact its just fat! I am dreading gaining weight and I hope this will slow down at some point.
As above I also feel like eating carbs only and same as CityMumToBe the sight of salad or poultry or anything remotely healthy (which I would like to eat) makes me feel sick! oh lord! Smile It's good to know I am not alone in this!
