am 7 weeks pregnant and suffering terrible all day nausea. It's my 3rd pregnancy but I forgot how crap you can feel. Have tried ginger but that makes feel worse as I associate it with feeling ill. I'm not actually throwing up but would appreciate any remedies for this :( thanks

Sea sickness bands? I had terrible sickness when pregnant with ds.. Was on meds for it. Not sure if the bands actually work or if it was just in my head. Get plenty of sleep and keep hydrated. I felt worse if I was tired. Easier said than done tho. I've just found out I'm pregnant with dc2. Sickness started at 6 weeks last time so time will tell for me Smile

Also, again I'm not sure if this is scientifically proven but, watered down coke would settle my tummy. There's something in full fat coke that helps apparently. Dh is in afghan and they are told to drink it if they get a bad tummy Blush

I'm pregnant with number 3 & i felt the same from 5 weeks until now, I am 11 weeks now & I don't feel perfect but it is much better. I tried every remedy, gobger, sea sickness bands, eating little & often etc & nothing helped. It felt never ending at the time & I really feel for you but hope I can offer you some hope as I really felt it would be never ending. Wishing you well xxx

I feel for you.

I'm in the same situation. Currently 9 weeks pregnant and have been suffering 24/7 nausea for the last 3 weeks.
This is my 2nd pregnancy and I had similar nausea with my 1st.

I feel I have lost the whole July :(

I have tried all the tricks but nothing seems to work. Hopefully will be better in a few weeks time.

Congratulations! If the taste of ginger is a no no, try ginger capsuals (I got mine from Holland & Barrets)

oh i feel your pain. i'm 6+2 and was fine up until two days ago and i have been suffering from nausea constantly since. i've only actually been sick a tiny bit but its just that constant sicky feeling. dared to venture out today and had to pull over on the dual carriageway as seriously thought i was going to be sick on my lap whilst driving :-(
i do feel a little better if i nibble on something, plain rivita or crackers and literally just a nibble. i also feel a little better if i go lie down for a bit. totally feel your pain though. mixed in with the extreme tiredness it really isn't pleasant!!!

I'm 8 weeks today and have been feeling exactly as you described since 6+1. It seems to get worse by the day and I went to see the nurse last Monday. She told me unless I'm actually throwing up or dehydrated there is nothing they can give me. Then told me to take a week off work and see how I feel.

I've been in bed for most of the last week and still feel bloody awful!! Wear the travel bands 24/7 and have tried ginger and every other supposed remedy but nothing seems to help. I just keep telling myself that it shows that I'm doing my job as incubator and that it will get better.... I hope you start to feel better soon

With luck, you should start improving fairly soon - I felt absolutely appalling during the first 12 weeks of my first pregnancy but it did clear up. I feel for you. I remember that constant, appalling nausea.

Try sucking on boiled sweets or ice lollies. It made a massive difference to me.

Things should start to gradually improve from 8wks. It's really awful though. I'm nearly 12 weeks and starting to feel better.

I am finding that really cold, flavoured sparkling water is doing the trick for me. I have about 5 giant bottles of the lemon and lime one lined up in the fridge to see me through the week.

Congratulations, maisiebabe! And sympathies for the sickness.

Know exactly how you feel, also 7 weeks with DC3. Am finding queasiness accompanied by tiredness and general feebleness, which is always a winning combination.....

Not winning the battle but I've also found chilled soda water a godsend - don't know why but it makes me feel much better. A paracetamol in the morning also seems to take the edge off and I re-discovered Murray Mints yesterday which seem to be helping too - always used to have barley sugars when car sick as a child, so could always give them a whirl too!

I also find trying to avoid food (or indeed thinking about food!) too much helpful, so am keeping the DDs' food as simple as possible - or ready meals. Feel a bit mean doing it, but they are at least healthy ones and it won't be forever - and am hugely grateful for frozen veg! Am also finding bowls of cereal handy for me to stave off nausea. Having said that, it does change from day to day - last week it was crisps and more crisps, but think I overdid that one as can't face them now.....

Hopefully yours will clear before too long - I escaped the nausea with DD2 but it was very similar to this with DD1 and I remember realising quite how rough I'd felt once I went back to normal. But it was 11-12 weeks ish. Hope you manage to rest up and enjoy the holiday and best of luck with your return to work.

I could have written your OP! Nothing to add to the helpful advice already given, but thought I would sympathise anyway. In bed on a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon feeling dreadful. Also 7 weeks. Here's hoping we both (and all other sufferers) start to feel better soon.

I am 17 weeks and been suffering since 6 weeks. Have just about tried every thing. I am now on anti sickness tablets from my G.P as I just couldn't keep anything down. I have the occasional day now when i'm not sick but not very often.

This is my second pregnancy and the sickness is worse. With my first I had fairly good success with a homeopathic remedy called Pulsitila.

Try to avoid fatty foods and food that are too high in acid, like oranges, tomatoes etc.

I have found coca cola to be a god send some days although bringing it back up is like throwing up black treacle-lovely!

Good luck with finding a cure.

Diet coke and lemon fanta seem to help ( not together I hasten to add) as does a plate of chips with loads of vinegar..! Not the healthiest pregnancy I fear. Have also been holding a bulb of ginger to my nose, as I can't bear to eat it but which looks like I have a huge snotter i want to keep, nice. Will try Soda water etc and other suggestions once I can be arsed moving off a chair/ bed as movement causes nausea and extreme self pity.....

Ah yes, the 24/7 hangover without the good night out! Speaking as someone who has been there (including hyperemesis during my first pregnancy which was hell on earth as I couldn't eat or drink anything and lost a lot of weight) acupuncture is scientifically proven to help with morning sickness - if you can afford it then it is definitely worth it! Failing that, all the above suggestions may help you. Peppermint is also a herbal alternative to ginger. (If you live in the North you might be able to get hold of some 'Uncle Joe's mintballs' which I found helpful in my second and third pregnancies.

thank god this is normal. I never knew being pregnant was going to be this bad!! Think I just dismissed friends/family when they mentioned morning (noon and night) sickness and thought they were being a bit dramatic. But yuk! Constant nausea, with actual sickness thrown in for good measure.... and I'm only in my seventh week. Oh ladies, why do we do this?!?! I've found plain hula hoops to be good.

No-one at work knows I'm pregnant (apart from my best friend in another office) so trying to make up excuses for why I look so awful and I'm rushing to the loo often is getting a bit tedious!!

Report
feekerry · 01/08/2011 08:35

How much sickness is normal then? I'm currently sick about 3 to 4 times a day so not keeping much down. Is this too much or normal?

you poor thing; morning sickness SUCKS! i havent actually thrown up in pregnancy but i remember weeks 7-9 with this one as being the time where i couldnt stand cooking smells or anything like that (sorry if iv set anyone off again with the thought LOL!). i made a drink with fresh mint leaves, honey and squeeze of lime which seemed to help (until that association thing kicked in!) which helped. also keeping hydrated and lots of sleep, i really noticed made a difference.

chances are this awful phase will only last a couple of weeks and week 9 or 10 you will notice that you are gradually feeling more human - fingers crossed xxx

Thanks to whoever suggested breadsticks - apologies, if it wasn't on this board but another, I'm not myself Confused They work a treat, so I'd recommend them to you if you're suffering too! I just couldn't face my cereal this morning, the consistency of the shredded wheat just flipped my tummy over and over...ewwwww... but the breadsticks have given me something at least. Give them a try!

Fruitella sweets and fruit cordial.

Report

I tried fruit cordial earlier.... came straight back up within five minutes :( I've noticed orange juice is an absolute killer these days too!

Went out at lunch and stocked up on boiled sweets, lucozade, ginger biscuits and crackers - feeling ok since! Guess we're all going to cope with this pregnancy lark differently but it's so interesting to hear what works for others :)
