I was wondering what percentille do they send you for growth scans if they think the baby is big? Do they only send you for growth scans if you are off the chart? (I am on the 90th and wondering if it is going to effect my plans for a home birth)

I'm not sure about measuring big, but I was measuring small and got sent for a growth scan. I measured 29cm at 31 weeks and then 29cm again at 34 weeks, so a combination of no change and small size (should have been more like 33/34cm by this point, not sure what percentile that put me at, but you can probably see on the graph in your notes). I had a growth scan the day after the 34 week measurement and baby was measuring about 4 days ahead of dates (so just over 35 weeks in size), so fundal height is really not very accurate.

At 36+2 I had another scan (this was prebooked for other reasons) and baby was apparently over 7lbs so fairly big!

My consultant did say that in general they are on the watch for poorly grown babies and aren't too worried about larger than average ones. Do talk to your MW about your concerns though.

mine stayed the same as my first was 30cm (28 wks) and second was 30cm (32wks). Although mine was smack bang average i was still sent as no change.

Thanks both I am also concerned because I have gained more weight than I did in either of my last two pg yet I am more than twice as active this time. I have not really been eating loads and dont look pg from behind yet I have gained 3 stone at 30 weeks and all on my stomach nothing else has got any bigger at all.

I think I am just worrying because well meaning strangers Hmm keep asking am I sure I am not having twins and that I am huge and really big for 30 weeks am I sure my dates are right Angry and one day soon someone is going to get the full force of my hormones directed at them Grin

I sympathise with you crawling - I'm 28wks into my third preg & never felt so big in all my life!! I have never measured big for dates with previous pregnancies (& so far I've had an 8lb3oz & an 8lb8oz baby, so they're not tiny!). Was measured at 31cm earlier this week at my 28wk appt (well, she actually measured it at 32cm but then downsized it by 1cm as she was measuring over my jeans). I was surprised I wasn't measuring somewhere nearer 35cm!
Midwife didnt seem too bothered, going back to be measured at 31wk appt, will see what I am them (dread to think!).

But I am damn umcomfy (posted another thread about baby being oblique earlier today) & huge - I have even outgrown my beloved topshop skinny mat jeans - i've never outgrown mat wear before, particularly not before 30wks!! My hubby still says I look 'unpregnant' from behind (bless him, he knows the right things to say, even though I dont believe him!). I have put on 2stone so far - usually I weigh bang on 2 stone heavier at full term, so I reckon i'll be weighing loads more by full term with this one.

I am also getting the "oh you must nearly be due" comments all the time. Errr no, still got 12 weeks to go...

I'm guessing its a case of 3rd babies...I'm going to start my own guess the baby weight sweep stake, my bet for my 3rd is somewhere between 9-10lb!
