Has anyone used one and felt it really benefitted them?

And did you hire one? And if do where from?

Hi mumswang - I hired one from Boots online and they were great. I wore it loads once my contractions started getting painful, and I had about 2 days of them! It really helped me but it's one of those things that you don't know whether it will work or not until you get there. If nothing else it does work as a distraction in the early stages especially if you get one that times your contractions, cos you spend all the time concentrating on timings . I would say it's worth it, & I'll be booking another this time, but others may have other experiences so will hopefully share them

Hired one from Boots and one from Tesco - neither did anything as the pads wouldn't stick so I just got electrocuted instead of nice therapeutic tingling! That was certainly a 'distraction' as Davina put it

I bought one second hand from an NCT sale. Wouldn't have paid more than a tenner. Plan was to use it early on, then get in the water. In reality, I used it for about two days, between induction and contractions really kicking in. It was a distraction, as the others have said, and I quite liked it, but no way would it have been useful at all once pain got stronger.

I've put it in my bag for this time around - but only really expecting it to distract from rather alleviate any pain.

I used a boots one with Dc2 & 3 - not sure which model exactly but I thought it was excellent in labour. IIRC - it had 3 modes and in one of the modes you could have it on at a certain level then boost it during contractions. This was dh's job!! It gave him a specific task during the labours which he quite liked. You do get accustomed to the sensation but you can turn it up gradually and find a level that suits.

I had only that and G&A for both labours and found it enough pain relief. And Ds1 was 10lbs 13oz .
