hello
is it inadvisable to sleep on your belly in the first trimester. i am 10 weeks. i don't want to sleep directly on my front but half on side-half on front. i am not pushing the baby am i? sorry if this sounds utterly naive! also, does anyone know if it is ok to keep taking my zita west's vital dha tabs - omega. many people say i should give up the fish oils now. best wishes
laura

I was always one to sleep on my front. Baby is very low down for a long time and is well protected. I slept on my front until it was uncomfortable to do so, then kind of moved to a half front half side and now at 39+5 am very definitely either side or sprawled on my back-sleeping is proving difficult so I end up however is comfortable!

you're fine to sleep on your tummy in the 1st trimester.. he is WAY to little to be squashed. as soon as he starts poking you you'll see why you can't sleep on your tummy (it makes you feel really sick).

However if you can train yourself to sleep on your side, this is what you'll have to do later on in pregnancy.. as you can't sleep on your back because the baby squashes some blood vessels in your back!!!

I still sleep half on my side half on front (week 22 now). Still don't feel uncomfortable that way, but I know that towards the end of the pregnancy it will become virtually impossible to sleep any other way but on your side as sleeping on your back will become very painful and sleeping on your bump not really doable (or sensible).

I agree about the sleep - enjoy your tummy sleeps now! I hated sleeping on my back/side for the best part of 8 months.

I was so excited to be approaching my planned c section date .... of course I was excited about babies, buy secretly I was also craving a night on my tummy! Sadly, it wasn't comfortable on my tummy for another month or two Sad

Never been a front sleeper but I long for the days of sleeping on my back. I can't wait to sleep flat out on my back after the birth. Got it all planned as as a post birth treat along with red wine and rare steak. It's the simple things as they say!

At the moment I grumpily submit to sleeping on left side propped by pillows as they do say this is best if you can manage it. Not been as hard as I thought, just not how I like to sleep.
