Reheated Chinese takeaway

Would you? Had loads left over this evening and would usually nuke it in the microwave the next day but now pregnant (23 weeks), am really not sure. That damn food thread has got me paranoid grin

I've eaten tons of leftover Chinese takeaway this pregnancy! As long as you refrigerate the rice properly and make sure everything is "piping hot" (as the H&S leaflets always say) you'll be fine. Enjoy!

Should be fine as long as heated through - but I'm always wary of reheated rice.

Don't do it.
Rice is a food that should never, ever be reheated, pregnant or not. It is an extremely high risk foodstuff. It is not worth the risk.

yes, it can harbour a nasty food poisoning but as long as it has been cooled asquickly as possible, refrigerated and then reheated thoroughly it will be fine!

restaurants re-heat rice. you can buy rice in ready meals and microwavable packets! of course it can be reheated

that said, i probably wouldn't eat a reheated chinese takeaway. not least because it will already have been reheated once. honestly, they really don't cook your rice to order wink

I wouldn't reheat a Chinese takeaway, PG or not.

As another poster said, reheated rice can harbour a really nasty bug (I have not so fond memories of the projectile vomming from that once).

A disproportionately high number of food poisoning cases are indeed caused by reheated rice. Or perhaps I should say inadequately heated. It's not actually the reheating that's the problem - it's the way the rice has been stored before reheating. Uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, a bacteria that can cause food poisoning. Unless the rice is cooked properly, the spores can survive, and if you then leave it standing at room temperature for any length of time, the spores can germinate into bacteria. These will then multiply and may produce toxins that cause all manner of nasty side-effects. Reheating the rice won't get rid of these toxins, so the longer cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely it is that bacteria, or the toxins they produce, could stop the rice being safe to eat.

Rice is best served when it has just been cooked, anyway, but if that's not possible, cool it as soon as you can (within an hour) and keep in the fridge for no more than a day. As when reheating any food, check it's steaming hot all the way through, and don't reheat more than once."

I always reheat Chinese takeaway. I just mega nuke it to make sure it's piping hot. Always have always will, pregnant or not

Yes, have reheated rice millions of times (including for babies) just make sure your put it in the fridge as soon as it's cooled down.

Thanks all. I have always reheated rice, and I mean really reheated so it burns your tongue kind of hot, without any trouble. I suddenly just got paranoid, but will be giving it a mega blast in the microwave tomorrow. Thanks!

I've ALWAYS reheated food the next day and have only ever had one bout of stomach trouble/food poisoning - and that was aged 15 (17 years ago) after eating a cream bun from the bakers!
Pregnant and reheat food all the time.

Well, I reheated it all for lunch except the rice in the end. All fine, no signs of trouble grin. Thanks for the reassurance everyone.
