Please tell me that I'm going to go into labour soon!!

I'm currently 41 wks and had my 2nd stretch & sweep this morning.

I had the 1st one done on Monday and although the cervix was soft it was still closed.

However, this morning, the MW told me that I'm 3cm dilated and the cervix is starting to efface. (Not 100% sure what 'efface' means).

I'm so fed up & impatient so really need someone to tell me that it's going to happen soon! Pretty please .

I'm not really feeling any twinges at the moment.

I'm desperate to have this baby before the end of the week. Can't bear another Monday morning of still being pregnant!

Sorry for the dramatics, it's the hormones .

Effacing is when the cervix thins and stretches in preparation for labour. So if this is happening it is a good sign. I took 3 days of labour to get to 3cm dilated, so I'd also take this as a good sign. Is this your first baby? It is very normal to be overdue, so - easier said than done - but try not to worry, and do try to take your mind off it. Staying mobile, and having a walk helps too.

I do understand the waiting being tough. DD1 was 18 days overdue, DD2 15 days over. Both were born by emergency CS, because I never got as dilated as you are now... so you're definitely on the right track.

Good luck xx

I had my 2nd sweep at 2.30pm ish, 3cm dilated. first mild contraction at about 10.30, DD2 born at 3.39am.

I predict you'll be in full labour tonight Grin

Keep active if possible.

Good luck!

Thanks Catsycat. This is my 2nd DC. With DC1 my waters went at home with meconium in them. I was 2cm when I got to hospital that time but had to be induced to get things going quickly due to the meconium.

I'm hoping to avoid another induction.

Wow, 18 days over, that is a long wait. I really should stop complaining! Smile

Thanks mumatron (love your username, that's DH's nickname for me)

We had a good walk round the shops this aft & made sure that I went up and down lots of stairs. I'm going to keep pacing round the house this evening & have a bit of a bounce on the old birthing ball.

Fingers crossed!

How are you ipredict ?

In lots of pain or snuggling a newborn yet?

Report
ipredicttrouble · 01/07/2011 08:29

Neither!! Sad Sad

Can't believe it. Had a few v mild contractions yesterday evening but then nothing. I was convinced that I was going to wake up during the night with proper contractions.

Officially fed up!

sounds like things are moving 1 centimeter more and you'll be in established labour, if it's any consolation i was 3cms dilated with my first when they took me to the delivery ward (i'd been in hospital with bleeding and i was only 36 weeks) but i gave birth 12 hours later so chin up

Sorry to hear that ipredict are you booked in for induction?

DD2 was 13 days late and was born the day I was going to be induced.

Sorry BettyBum, I've got threads all over the place! Can you sense my desperation at the moment Grin. I really don't know what to suggest. I've done loads of walking today, am about to have a tidy up (once the tennis has finished) and then a bounce on the ball. Then probably an early night. How about you?

Thanks for the encouraging words babyonboard. I was wondering how you were doing.

mumatron, I'm booked in for an induction on Tuesday but really want to avoid that. I was induced last time & for some reason I really want my body to be able to do it naturally this time. Does that sound daft? However, think I may have mentioned this here or another thread that it's my DD's birthday on Monday and I'm getting into a state about that too.

I'm doing similar to you ipredict. I am contracting but they either come weak and close together or strong and far apart, never strong and every 10 mins!

Sooooooooo bored. Had a bath and that's really slowed things down. Sad

Glad you said that in a way! Thought I was going mad. I've had a few weak ones close together but no really strong ones. DH (bless him), keeps saying "well they were only 15 mins apart", that's good. But then I have to remind him that they aren't actually painful.

Isn't it weird to be sat here wishing to feel some real pain!! Grin

That's exactly like me and DP! Ha ha.

Yes I would give anything for a hard and fast labour. One that starts, is intense, then ends with a baby. All this pissing about is driving me insane. I never really thoughtvit could be likevthis but actually, looking back, it was similar with DD only I was in the hospital so when it slowed down they just intervened to speed it up again. Home birth this time so quite different.

I had ds's birthday, mil's birthday, christmas, new year, dp's birthday and the older dc's starting at a new school all within 2 weeks of my edd. Dd decided to wait until they had passed before making an appearance!

Any contractions this evening Betty?

Good grief mumatron, you certainly had loads going on! Makes my issue seem daft really.
