Did you? And if you did, when and how much??
I abstained first and second time round but am thinking a wee glass now and again might be ok....
Wait till 12 weeks???? Or wait till the birth??

I had the odd glass of wine, didn't completely abstain but if I did have a drink it was only one. I think through the whole pregnancy I had maybe half a dozen glasses of wine. Currently 13 weeks preg and drinking a small bottle of Stella as I type.........

Phew!!! I'm not sure if it's the stress of having 2 kids all ready, but it's ALL I can think about!! I don't normally drink that much but I really fancy a beer/wine/shandy/spritzer -not all at once mind Wink
Am only about 5/6 weeks so am just sniffing the wine corks (and occasionally sooking them!) but 8 months seems a LONG way away....

Im not drinking, but if I did I'd wait till after 12 weeks and have the odd glass or two a week. Also non alcoholic wine/beer might be worth a try?

I did in the last trimester (about 1 glass a week from 8 months). By that time I had no tolerance for it and so went all giggly and my feet felt funny. It was like drinking for the first time again and utterly lovely. It's worth giving up for a decent length of time just for that feeling.

Apparently sainsburys do a nice non alcoholic wine!

I have had a small glass here and there, mostly at god awful family parties, but had one last week when I failed my exam, got home and found that our basement had flooded with sewage. They were very small glasses though!

When pregnant alcohol tastes absolutely awful to me - this time round worse than last. I do try to drink though and can manage 2 glasses of wine if really pushed. I also used to drink cider - 2 pints at a time - in the first trimester before that started tasting horrible as well. Just as well that this goes immediately following birth and I can go back to a bottle of wine a night.

I've not had any, there is an amazing strawberry beer I'd love to have half of, but my OH is very much against me even having that, so looks like I'll not be drinking for a while, am 30 wks now, planning on breast feeding as long as possible, so unless I'm able to express loads I won't be drinking for at least the rest of the year, maybe not even till spring next year!!!

I went down the alcohol free route. I was working in a pub and didnt want everyone knowing i was pg straight away and lack of drink in hand would have raised eyebrows so had alcohol free beer. By the time bump had arrived i had developed a taste for it and it was nice not to get stuck with oj all the time. I warn you though avoid becks n/a as it tastes like tramps piss. There are some nice beers out there (i liked the belgian ones - jupiler n/a, erdinger n/a) but never tried wine.

If you struggle at the supermarket most of the beers on here are good and they do a ton of wine boozefreebooze

100years - you do not have to give up alcohol while you are breastfeeding, that is a myth.

If you want the strawberry beer then have it, I certainly wouldn't let my DH dictate to me like that.

He's not dictating, although I can see how my post has come across. We're very much together in all things and discuss them and to be fair I never really drank that much anyway(prob only about 12 units the whole of last year), I don't enjoy it that much, just liked the flavour of that particular beer. He wouldn't stop me doing something if I really wanted to, but I'm not bothered enough about it really.

Well I thought alcohol could get into the breast milk. Never fed yet, first timer, so just going on stuff I've heard.

I didnt know i was pregnant until 4+ months so i drank alot (unknown to me i was 3 months pregnant at last years' Glastonbury!). Once i did find out i was pregnant i just cut down to one small glass of wine a week/fortnight. Or i had a little glass of champagne at weddings/christmas (though it gave me heartburn!) i certainly never lost my taste for alcohol but i really moderated my intake!

I've had a few tiny glasses of wine post 12wks, now 22wks, and it tastes absolutely rank. Which is the most disappointing thing of all time. I found that I missed it most in the first 12 weeks, now I am less bothered but I have found this Muscato and it is not bad, a little on the sweeter side but nothing like stuff like J2O (feels feels like it is rotting my teeth). A good friend, who had her baby in January assures me that your taste comes back, hurrah!

I find it easier to just abstain completely. One glass of wine just makes you want another, and another etcetc. Only 16 weeks to go for me!

PIMSoclock · 24/06/2011 21:19

I seem to remember the non alcoholic wine tasted more like alcohol last time round. Sad
I have to admit using a glass of wine to help unwind a couple of times a week. Think that's the hardest part esp as ds would test the patience of the Dali lama with his constant questions and ds is constantly grumpy with sore teeth.

Awww, my head

Like Scheherezadea I find it easier to have none. I'm not a wine drinker anyway, more of a spirits person.

100years Yes drinking while BF is fine as very little gets in it. Basically if you can drive and handle a baby, you can BF.

I had a vodka and coke at the pub at around 26 weeks (1 shot in a pint of coke!) - after a quarter of it I felt drunk, didn't finish it and havent craved alcohol since

Report
RitaMorgan · 24/06/2011 21:30

I couldn't drink for the first 4 months as I was so sick - after that I had a drink or two a week.

I have a few glasses of wine and breastfeed too, ds is 10 months now and there's no way I'd have managed 19 months with no alcohol Grin
