Recommended Calorie Intake

Does anyone know what the recommended calorie intake is? I keep reading conflicting guides. I want to manage my weight during my pregnancy and not use it as an excuse to pile on lots of weight so have been working to 2,000 calories per day. Do you think this is too much? Should I be eating less?

Any advice would be fab! Thanks ladies!

2000 is what a non-pregnant woman should be eating. The official guidelines are that you shouldn't eat any more than normal in the first 6 months, then an extra 200 calories a day in the last trimester. Doesn't quite sound like enough to me but those are the guidelines.

Oh my god well I've had pretty much my whole daily intake in a share bag of fruit pastilles then :(

I'm only 9 weeks, so I should be ok with my 2000 per day then! That's a relief...

Flowerydems... love it! Whilst I have been trying to be good, I'm sure I've had plenty of 4000 calorie days due to chocolate over consumption!!! :)

Eat as normally as you can, but if you are hungry, or craving something, then eat. Listen to your body.

I would eat what you like just now, especially as keeping eating keeps morning sickness / tiredness / fainting etc at bay.
I was really hungry for first 3 months but am more back to normal now at 6 months. Also I now can't eat anything without considering the likely heartburn effect, plus the bump has a mind of its own and only wants to eat F&V.
So the advice might be to aim towards eating more later but that might not be the reality. Surely a monthly check on the scales would be a better guide than obsessing about calories.

Oh dear! I have been consuming way above the guidelines this pregnancy. I am 17 weeks and eat whenever I feel hungry (Which is a lot of the time!)
I lost 5lbs even though I ate like a real pig during the first trimester (no morning sickness, or vomitting) and I am still not back to my pre-pregnancy weight.
I look a lot larger all round and have a nice little bump now.

So, listen to your body
