Hi i have posted before but i really need to speak to someone today. I am so scared i still don't have a bump and i'm due to give birth any day now. I can feel baby move and things but this fear of something being wrong is over taking my life, I can't sleep i can't properly look after my daughter i can't clean my home. I have been getting routine scans and things and the obstetrician thinks everything is fine and that i am just one of those 'lucky ones'. I know baby is small (On 10th centile like my daughter was) But i would still expect a bump. I see some woman with bumps at 10 weeks and here i am about to give birth with nothing and i mean nothing! I am normally a thin person so it's not hiding behind fat and i am not tall at all only 5ft so baby can't be hiding in a long torso. I just don't know what to do. I have spoken about my concerns and these have been put down to anxiety. But wouldn't use feel the same? I just can't shake the feeling that this baby is going to be born with severe defects or not be born alive :( Sad i know but i really really need some help. I do not know what to do. OH is getting fed up with my constant tears and worries and i don't blame him ive been like this for weeks and my fears are getting worse as each day approaches. Please help!

Has your waist measurement gone up at all? It may be that you've just expanded all round rather than just at the front, and if your tummy muscles are good and the baby is small with not a huge amount of fluid, then it might have enough room within your torso. I think they would have picked up anything wrong on a scan.

I had a colleague like you.

When I heard she was pregnant, I went to congratulate her and she told me that she was going on maternity leave that week. I had more of a bump, and I wasn't even pregnant!

She had been assured that the baby was fine, but so many people were saying, "oh, you aren't even showing a bit, I hope that the baby is ok" and she was really worried about it.

Her baby was born not long after and was totally healthy, small but not worryingly so. She was a small woman too.

Phone your midwife, or your GP and make an appointment. Tell them that your fears. Don't try to keep it inside, let it out and talk to someone about it.

Hi, if you are feeling anxious about this you should talk to your midwife. There are midwives who deal with anxiety before giving birth to help you overcome worries you may have in relation to the baby and so on.

Good luck!

My friend was flat as a pancake with her first, baby was fine (now a strapping 6 year old).

My cousin didn't show at all. Her waist measurement went up but she didn't have any kind of a bump at all and some people didn't even realise she had been pregnant until they saw her pushing a pram afterwards.

If the scans are showing she's healthy then try not to worry, some ladies show more than others is all.

I also have two friends who hardly had any bump at all by the time they gave birth- and everything was fine, both their baby boys are 2 now.

Do talk to your midwife or your GP though - that is what she is there for, and all this worrying is obviously not good for you or the baby, so you need a sympathetic and knowledgable ear to set your mind at rest.

If the scans have not shown any problems then I'm sure everything is fine, but do talk to someone.

Thinking of you xx

I have a friend who had no bump at all and did not know she was pregnant until she went into labour on holiday in Spain!! I never thought it was possible but she gave birth to a small but perfectly healthy baby who is a healthy bright 3 year old now. In fact her tummy was that flat that there are photos of her in a bikini a day before she gave birth! Scans are that advanced now that they would pick up on any problems early on so im sure everything?s fine.

Im 38 weeks and at my antenatal class last week the midwife made us line up in order of due date (most embarrassing) the range in bump sizes was massive and you wouldn?t have put us in that order if you had to guess going off bump size. My bumps quite small too but alas my bottom seems to have expanded 10 fold.

Good luck [big grin] x

My friend has 4 kids and did not show with any of them, no one even knew she was pregnant each time until she showed up with another baby. All 4 are fit and healthy - scan would have picked up anything severe but I sympathise with you missing being able to look pregnant, at least you are saving money on clothes. There are lots of sites here you can see photos of people with different size bumps. Try not to stress.

Hi Becka, no experience to share with you I'm afraid but did you see the story about the woman who was in the Sun a while back, she didn't even know she was pregnant - weighed 8st and had a flat stomach & gave birth to a healthy 8lb baby! :)

I hope everything will be fine with you too & I'm sure it will be, good luck!

Good luck with the stretch and sweep, and don't worry about the lack of bump. I did not have one, and people did not believe I was expecting (a bit of a nuisance on the tube at peak hour) but a perfect DS was born weighong in at just over 7lb.

Just remember, whilst I was suffering huge bump envy, my ante-natal pals were just so jealous of my lack of stretch marks......Grin Oh, and no need for tent clothes!!!!
