Blood surrounding pregnancy sac?

A friend has just had a scan today as she was having pains. They have told her there is a 1cm width of blood surrounding the sac and she needs to rest as much as possible due to risk of miscarriage. They also said it might have come from the placenta developing (she's 9 weeks) so a miscarriage is likely but if she rests it should clear up Confused. This is second hand from my friend and obviously she was in a state so not sure exactly of what she was told.

Does anyone have any experience of this sort of thing and what happened? Any information would be great to try and get a clearer understanding of what's going on.

TIA

My daughter had a seperate sac of blood which caused a big bleed at 7 weeks with some cramping pains, she continued to bleed on and off until about 12 weeks, she is now 39 weeks, apparently the rest of the blood was re-absorbed, I dont know if this is of any help to you, I hopeyour friend is still ok, x

Thank you for answering. She seems okay, just trying to rest as much as possible.

I had bleeding with DD2 at 11 weeks. They identified a blood clot separate to the sac the baby was in. They reckoned there was about 10mls of blood in it and I would bleed for 2 weeks as it gradually dissolved. I was told to rest but as I had a toddler and we were in the middle of packing to move 3 weeks later back to the UK from Australia my rest was limited. DD2 is now a healthy 3.5 year old.

Can she request another scan in say 5 days or so to see if the blood has reduced and to put her mind at ease? I got a scan about 4 weeks later to check everything had settled down again. The bleeding did last around the 2 weeks.

She will be worried as I had bleeding with both my daughters pregnancies but strangely none with my son.

Hope she is ok.
