Pregnancy

Calling mums of multiples- please humour me through this "feeling"

Am 6-7weeks preg (lmp =7wks ago but know I ovulated a week late so not as far along if you see what I mean.

Anyhow I am completely convinced it's twins and I just can't shake the feeling! I have no evidence for this feeling - I started puking at 5wks 3days which is earlier than last time but not massively so. Feel utterly grim but probably on par with my last sucessful pregnancy. I have a scan in two weeks (as last pregnancy was ectopic and lost a tube and have had previous mmc at 10 weeks) so obviously will find out then but in meantime thought I would ask mums of multiples if they ever just had this conviction it was a multiple pregnancy before it was confirmed? Just humour me! (oh and mums of what turned out to be singletons who also felt this let me know too!)

p.s absolutely no twin history either side of family either so it is very unlikely but it's driving me mad because it is such a strong feeling/hunch whatever! (gonna look pretty daft in two weeks when they confirm a singleton pregnancy aren't I!)

Your not alone, I am about 8 weeks gone and convinced I am having twins too! All of my pregnancy symptoms magnified by 6 million as opposed to my previous pregnancies, think I am goin to feel a fool aswell when scan comes round! Fingers crossed for you :)

I had a feeling, and was right, identical twin girls Grin

Hiya, yes I just knew with my twins even researched twin home births the night before the scan.
Had a scan at 8 weeks (privately) and the minute she scanned across my tummy I could see the 2 of them, so held my breath until she said
"are there twins in the family?" Grin
I didn't however tell dp my suspicions, he nearly fell of the chair in shock!

My two are 22 months now and hard work but so much fun Smile

Oh I totally had this feeling with my second pregnancy and from quite early too like you. I didn't say anything to anyone because it seemed so daft - no history of twins in family etc. Was extremely sick though from about 5w. I wasn't terribly surprised when they found ID twins in the scan at 12w. ID twins can happen to anyone, no need for history in family BTW.
Also the same thing happened with a colleague of mine - she just knew it was twins (but I think in her case her own mum is a twin).
Could be.....

oh yes and my sickness started about 5 weeks with the twins, and about week 7 with the singletons.

Witchofnorth when do you find out? Twelve weeks?

I will be terrified if right but disappointed if proved wrong iyswim? My head is all over place!

Have defo had more scratchy stretchy sensations than with dd but assuming that may just be because have been preg before. Oh and if it's relevant tested positive at 10dpo which is early (but think I did with dd too)

Lavitabellisima congrats! Did you have symptoms that made you think this? Are you pregnant now or have the DTs arrived?

I 'knew' it was twins, no idea why, but I had a feeling and it was confirmed id twins at a scan at 7 weeks. Conversely I had no symptoms at all until 8 weeks and then only mild nausea (which turned into full blown sickness by about week 13). As indeepestdevon says, id twins are completely random - no family history needed!

Thandeka, I am not actually sure, no scan booked yet, would imagine they would fix I for about that time.....still to see midwife Blush

Thanks Smile, they are nearly 7 months old Grin

I went to my booking in appointment and was given all the brochures etc, I was reading and came to a cartoon picture of a woman breastfeeding twins and said to DP, I think I'm having twins!

I was soooo sick, back ache etc from 5 weeks so paid for a private scan at 10 weeks as my NHS one was scheduled for 13 weeks. I wanted to tell work as I'd had to take 2 weeks off because I was just so ill, and the consultant told us then that they were identical as they shared a placenta.

Congratulations to you either way, and if you are having twins, pop into the multiples topic as we are a friendly bunch Grin

I had my third 14 weeks ago Shock - where did that time go? I was so sick from about 6 weeks, I mean actually throwing up several times a day. I mentioned it to midwife at booking appt and she had said "well it might be twins", they do run in both our families or "maybe it's a boy" (I had 2 girls previously). At 12 week scan - just one and had dd3 - very happy and healthy Grin

I was super sick from 5w, even my GP suggested it might be twins DH and I were convinced but nope - 12w scan showed only 1 there. I am 27+3 now and I still feel sick

I had twins - knew from private scan at 7 weeks. No morning sickness or nausea, just heightened sense of smell.

Thandeka, I was convinced this pregnancy was twins. Insane sense of smell, felt like crap, was generally much more aware of everything early on - with DS I had no symptoms, didn't think to test till period was a week late etc. - this time around I was violently sick one night and just knew it was implantation, got a strong early BFP after implantation bleeding.

I was utterly convinced there were two in there, but nope, just one wriggly girl :)

Haha so consensus now is it may or maynot be. Funnily enough now am thinking my 'feeling' isn't as strong. And now worrying about vanishing twin syndrome! Am getting ridiculous!

I knew my snd pg was very different and thought something was wrong/it was a boy as dd's pg was so easy to start with. Tbh I thought I was losing the baby and dh and I prepared ourselves after the 1st scan showed and empty sac. Second scan at 7 weeks showed one sac and 2 babies! I just kept giggling.

Am now 22 +6w pg with ID twin girls. It was a huge shock but I did know something was different.

PrincessScrumpy · 25/05/2011 09:40

I'm glad I found out at 7 weeks as it explained the extreme sickness and exhaustion! Oh and the fact I showed at 8w!

BrassicaBabe · 25/05/2011 10:59

There was an increased chance that I would have twins because of the Clomid. But I had no idea! Symptoms were all pretty mild, certainly less than other members of my family. So I was totally surprised when it turned out to be twins at my 11 week private NT scan Grin

OK, so to mitigate against confirmation bias and balance this thread out, I was sure at one point that DD was twins. She wasn't.

OP, why not just go and have a scan and find out for definite? You'll tie yourself in knots wondering...

minmooch · 25/05/2011 13:14

I knew it was twins - just gut instinct - and there they were id twin daughters.

Had no ms or symptoms, in fact I felt better in my twin pregnancy than I did with my singletons.

Good luck!

I had twins, but never suffered any morning sickness or any other symptoms really. Definitely didn't have a clue.

Okay so it's a singleton! Yay for a HB and growing ok. Interestingly a few days after starting this thread I stopped being convinced it was twins so obviously it was a vanishing twin! Or it was all in me head! Cheers for all the support though guys. :)
