Hi all
Ds born 8 weeks early because of preeclampsia. Have been given 25 % chance of recurrence in this pregnancy. Looking for some positive stories about lovely trouble free 2nd pregnancies!

I had normal 2nd pregnancy(normal 3rd too) my consultant said 2nd pregnancies are usually trouble free and it was pretty rare to have it then,if it was going to show up again it would be more likely in the 3rd.

I had pre eclampsia with my first.
They kept a close eye in my second and third pregnancies but no pre eclampsia not even raised blood pressure. I was told its much much less common to get it it subsequent pregnancies.
I was under the high risk clinic for a number of reasons but I think you'll probably be under it as well given the history.
hoping you have a trouble free pregnancy too second time round

I had PET at 40 weeks with DD. I had PET with DS with symptoms presenting at 24 weeks. I made it to just shy of 37 weeks but spent much of it in hospital.

We decided not to have any more children partly because having months on end in hospital was not fun for DD, DH or me.

Hi bunny I'm in the same position as you. Had DS at 35+5 but was in hospital from 35 weeks. I'm now 10+4 with my second. How far along are you?

I've been told by my GP that I'll be given extra checks during the last trimester so if it does develop again it'll be picked up on sooner. I've lost 2.5 stone since last time and really hope it'll make a difference.

I had PE with DS1. It was diagnosed at 35 weeks but the medics thought I'd probably had it for several weeks before hand. DS1 was born by EMCS shortly after diagnosis. I was given a 20% chance of recurrence. DS2 was born at 39 weeks. Absolutely no signs of raised blood pressure or protein throughout pregnancy. GOod luck

I had pre eclampsia with dd and am now nearly 30 weeks. I am classed as high risk and am being monitored closely. I have just had my 28 week bloods done and all is well, my blood pressure is the same as it was at the beginning of the pregnancy. I have to have growth scans at 32 and 36 weeks and see the consultant but so far so good.

I had severe PE in my first pregnancy which resulted in ECS and despite getting to 37 weeks having a 4lb 4 oz baby due to PE. SCBU for four days and I was in intensive care for a week,in hospital for two weeks.
I'm now 25 weeks pregnant and have been very well looked after throughout my pregnancy. I'm under consultant led care and have been on daily aspirin and calcium tablets to try and prevent a recurrence. I've been told I am at high risk of getting it again - 1 in 5 chance.
This pregnancy has been totally different though, I'm much bigger and feel more movements. I also know more about PE so am more aware of what to look out for. I also feel more confident to challenge my ante-natal care although so far have not had to. Having 4 weekly growth scans which are reassuring.
Hopefully will be able to avoid the dreaded magnesium sulphate this time and will get to hold my baby on the day s/he is born.
Good luck with your pregnancy.

I've also heard that if you do develop PE in a second pregnancy that it tends to develop later and is not usually so severe.

Thanks all
I'm 23 weeks, all well so far but starting to have extra monitoring. When people ask my due date I can never imagine myself getting there. I plan to stop work at 34 weeks so am hoping for a long and boring maternity leave prior to baby arriving. Didn't get any last time.
Good luck to all those in the same situation.

Hello - heads up that this thread hasn't been posted on for over a year. If you still have questions, we've pulled together some information on a page on preeclampsia which you can read in our pregnancy section here.
