Hi All,

I've got 12 days to go and I have really bad lower abdomen pain. It really hurts to walk and I have difficulty getting up from bed and sofa.

Is this the beginning of the end???

Sorry you are in pain. Sad

Of course there will be tremendous pressure down there as baby is low/engaged etc - but have you talked to your midwife about SPD or a possible urinary tract infection? I had two during this pregnancy and they were extremely painful in that same area, especially when walking. I've learned to recognise the difference in pressure between just baby VS baby + infection.

I have also had some pelvic and hip pain throughout, nothing too debilitating but it seems to flare up again just as I thought it had gone. A tip my midwife gave me was to keep my legs together when getting out of bed or off the sofa if you have pelvic pain/SPD - it really does minimise the discomfort and stops it straining.

Thanks NoMoreHeels,

The back pain get so bad that I can't move, its horrible. I was hoping it was signs that baby was on the move.

:)

Thanks for the advice, I will definately try to do that.

Hey Sarah,
I also have 12 days to go, and similar abdominal pains. At my midwife appointment this morning, she said it might be the start of things, but could still be a few more days to go- it doesn't necessarily mean baby is on the way right now.
Hope that helps!

Sorry to hijack but....

I'm 38 weeks now and woke up at 3am this morning with painful contractions, backache and aching thighs. Also felt extremely sick. This went on until 9am, when it finally faded and I fell asleep. I told my midwife (had an appointment this lunch time) but she brushed it off as 'oh, Braxton Hicks', no further comment on it at all. I've been having Braxton Hicks contractions for at least 10 weeks and this was much more painful.

Do you think it might be the start of something, or false labour...? I'm a bit worried because my maternity unit is 60 miles away!

Again, apologies for the hi-jacking.

I'd call another midwife for a second opinion, or the maternity unit.

Yes call another midwife! Have you lost your mucus plug at all? If it were real labour it's more likely that you would still experience something. Any pain right now?
