Swollen feet anyone??

I am 34 weeks pregnant and I've woken up to a swollen right foot today...I'm panicking that it's pre-eclampsia setting in but everyone keeps saying it's probably the hot weather...
Is anyone else experiencing swollen feet in the heat?

Last summer my feet just about doubled in size, along with my hands. This was on holiday in London and 7 months pregnant. Was glad to get back to cool Scotland.

Very common in the heat I believe.

Oh yeah - nothing for it but to put your feet up.

And drink lots of water.

It is probably just the heat - but if you ring your MW they will tell you what else to look out for. (nothing wrong with being paranoid sometimes)

Not feet but my fingers have swollen up! Luckily remembered to take my rings off this time- they got stuck with DD1.

My feet, ankles and hands are huge since the hot weather started! Trying to keep my feet up or wrapped in something cool. Doesn't help my ankles are so embarrassing I'm wearing trousers to keep them covered! :)

I would definitely contact your mw or labour ward for reassurance. It probably is just the weather, but I would have thought it would be more of an issue at the end of the day rather than waking up to it.

Are you feeling well in other ways? No headache or swelling elsewhere?

Yep, had the elephant feet since week 34, I'm now 37 weeks! I would definitely see the MW just so she can check your BP and urine, although it's probably just the heat and the bump blocking the blood flow if you're not experiencing any headaches or vision problems..

I eventually just gave up trying to get it to go away complitely, so now I make sure I spend at least 2 hours of my day with my feet up and just the other day I discovered that Arnica cream actually helps! DH rubs it on my feet in the evening and in the morning my feet are near normal, although the swelling slowly creeps back during the day, but it really takes the worst swelling away..

Get your bp checked tomorrow

I had elephant feet and no ankles when the hot weather started. If I make sure I keep my feet up then they end up a bit swollen but not too bad. And I have been doing exercises suggested on the NHS website - basically every so often stretch your feet and circle your ankles to get the blood flowing.

I'm not worried as I think its just the heat, however I would be more worried if I had woken up like that and it was only in one foot.

I have swollen feet, ankles and hands, and the hands ache at night. Been told it's just fluid retention and perfectly normal (if uncomfortable and rather unattractive!). As the others say, rest, keep your feet up when you can and keep em cool. I found Vaseline feet and leg moisturiser with eucalyptus and menthol feels lovely and soothing and worth rubbing in from time to time.

As long as BP is normal, it's not a sign of anything worrying.

pre eclampsia comes with a killer headache which refuses to budge and vision problems, just in case you want to look out for it x

Firsttimer - it doesn't always come with a headache. I felt absolutely fine and went for a routine MW appt to find my bp had shot up and I had protein in my wee. I had swollen feet but just put it down to being 34wks pg. I never developed the headache despite the fact that my liver function was severely impaired in the end.

OP it could easily be the weather but I would get your bp and urine checked. If the swelling doesnt go down after you've had your feet up for a while then it might be more than just the heat causing it.

I didn't get a headache with my severe pe either.

Thanks guys, I've got my 34 weeks midwife appt tomorrow so I might just wait until then. I feel absolutely fine apart from that...it definately went down over night but they both look slightly swollen, fingers crossed it's the heat...I have been embracing the sun :)

My pe didn't have any symptoms either - never had a headache or visual problems all I had was very swollen feet for 3 weeks and that probably wasn't related. One day blood pressure fine next through the roof with protein in urine. Cue induction at 35 weeks and me on hdu for 36 hours. Can happy very suddenly without warning - my pregnancy had been problem free and textbook until then.
