Not gallstones - so what's this pain?

Hi

I've got a pain on my right hand side which radiates through to my back. It's bad enough to take pain killers from time to time. At this front it's just above my rib line. It's a sharp burning pain.

It's the classic spot for gallstones. Although when the pain comes and goes is more random, not linkedto fatty food etc.

My consultant sent me for an abdominal/liver scan which showed no problems, everything healthy.

I saw one of the consuntants underlings for the results who told me it's just one of those pregnancy things Hmm.

I don't suppose you ladies have any better ideas do you Wink The pain is driving me mad.

thanks

Did they actually scan your gallbladder?

Brassicababe, I have exactly the same....stabbing pain in right hand side at about belly button level...sometimes nearer middle of back, sometimes nearer my side. I've had it off and on over the last 3 days and after a night of waking up every few hours in pain I'm off to thie doctors later this morning.

My feeling is that its baby pressing on a nerve as it seems to have coincided with a growth spurt and significant change in my bump size and shape.

Will report back later!

i find it helps to lean forwards for a while over the back of a chair, beanbag, gym ball to get weighit of baby to move forwards. Do you find the same?

Domesticgoddess that sounds like classic gallbladder problems, especially the leaning forward bit. It can also make bowel movements very pale. I had it very badly when I was pregnant and then a really bad (ambulance job) attack when my baby was 3 weeks old, which they initially thought was a pulmonary embolism. The stones were picked up on a scan and I had my gallbladder out a few months later. It was all very scary at the time - I thought gallstones were only for old people! My GP leaned back in her seat and said "Fit, fat, fertile, fair and forty." I managed to squeak "I'm only 38 and a half!"
I'm tons better with it out and really glad I had it done.

Well just got back from the doctors and she says I've torn ligaments between my ribs. She thinks due to everything loosening up I could have done it just by twisting my back getting out the car. No mention of gallstones and she said not the right place for kidney problems. I had no idea torn ligaments could be so excruciating. I'm not sure I am totally convinced by her diagnosis but then I did suffer from back ache pre preg so perhaps she's right and my weak back has failed me. God it hurts :(

Torn ligaments? Well at least they'll heal themselves, but how annoying! Mine was always worse late at night which again is a symptom, dong know if you've had anything like that. Hope you're feeling better v soon.

Thanks BagofHolly, the pain was a bit on and off, mostly off yesterday but omg is it most definitely on today. Thank goodness its another sunny day so I can at least catch some rays while I rest, the warmth is easing it a bit too.

Hope yours is feeling better BrassicaBabe x

Hi

Sorry you are feeling crap DomesticGoddess

There's nothing near my bellybutton other than babies! Grin The pain is more under my boob, just above my rib line. Yep, they scanned my gallbladder and found no problems.

Took a pain killer this morning, but everything okay at the moment Hmm
