Hi All, my friend is 34 weeks pregnant with her second baby.... no obvious problems with pregnancy. But shes been told that the baby hasn't grown for the last 4 weeks... he is 1.9kg (4.1 lbs??) and that if he doesnt grow much in the next 2 weeks they want to deliver early... she is already booked in for a cs at 37 weeks (seems to be the normal policy in Singapore)...
so.... how accurate is ultrasound at measuring weight? can they test to see if placenta is functionning properly? and whats your advice about cs at 37 weeks? that seems early to me.... mine were both at 39 weeks....

thanks xx

How have they measured growth? I think scans measure quite accurately but fundal height measurement is very unreliable. They can measure placental blood flow using a doppler. 37 weeks is classed as full term for pregnancy so all should be fine by then

I had my DS at 37wks by c-section, because he wasn't growing enough either due to pre-eclampsia they estimated 4.5lb, he was 4lb 10oz and never had any probs once he was born, they took him to special care for the night, but 12hrs later he was on ward with me.

37 weeks is normal delivery. I was told by a UK consultant that if my placenta stops functioning, they'd deliver the baby at 37 weeks. I have 4-5 friends and colleagues whose babies, due to various complications, were delivered perfectly healthy at 36-37.5 weeks (no stabilisation facilities were necessary). If the baby's growth stops, then the placenta is not functioning. They can also see the placental thinkness and position, and amniotic fluid levels on the scan. Singapore has excellent doctors so I would trust they can do as good of a job as the UK ones...
