Tummy bug lasting 6 days when 33 weeks pregnant

I am currently 33 weeks pregnant with DC3 and am now on day 6 of a tummy bug. It's fairly mild and oddly seems to come and go (it started on Sunday was gone on Monday, returned on Wednesday, went again on Thursday, returned last night and I still feel it). I have cramps/gripes and a few but very infrequent bouts of d&v. And before anyone asks it's definitely cramps/gripes not braxton hicks - I suffered them terribly when pregnant with DS and can tell these pains are not they!

If it was a weekday I'd go to my GP but that's obviously not an option today. I'm definitely not ill enough to go to A&E or even an out-of-hours doc but I just feel a bit uneasy having felt below par for so long when pregnant.

Does anyone have any advice / been in a similar situation?

Would be most grateful!

Sorry to hear you've not been well. I've not experienced this but didn't want your post to go unanswered! If you don't feel ill enough for A&E how bout calling NHS Direct and seeing what they say?

Hope you start to feel better soon.

I would call the mw on labour ward for advice (you should have the number in your notes) as they are on duty 24 hours a day.

I had a bad tummy bug and flu (not at the same time but about 3 weeks appart). It was early in pg but with the sickness, I was wretching so deep I even weed on the floor (while head was in the loo). Sorry for being graphic but I'd never had anything like it and pelvic floor is usually very strong. Poor dh even cleared it up for me (poor guy) and didn't complain. I called mw and she said babies (twins) were well protected and I just needed to make sure I kept hydrated. Coke is really good as it has a bit of caffiene and sugar so hydrates you and gives a bit of energy. they advise it for young babies (flat) when they are dehydrated.

Good luck. hopefully reassurance from a mw will help. Hope you feel better soon x

Hey, I had something similar around 28 weeks, I left it for 2 weeks until I felt so tricking awful that I had to go to the docs - turns out I had gastroenteritis!! Surprise surprise nothing they could do just said avoid dairy and spicy food until it went away. Have had the same symptoms except the cramps are much worse this time, I rang the ward and they told me it sounded muscular as it was only on my left side and to take paracetomal. Baby has been moving NON STOP tho. Hope this helps a little

Hope you feeling better, i had this similar thurs night and phoned the labour ward after much debate. They were really lovey to me and i didnt feel silly going in, they kept me in and monitored me as they said baby's heart rate was too high as i was ill, you can never be too careful, if you feel ill phone them, thats what they are there for ;)

Thank you everyone for your kind messages. I finally managed to get a good night's sleep on Sunday night after a week of insomnia/being woken by DC and it seemed to help my tummy settle down.

I will be sure to contact midwife/doc if it flares up again.
