I am about 3 weeks preg (apron, dr's tomorrow) and have bloated up huge already and it's making me really sad. I'm size 8 normally and look after
My body. In the week I have found out I am pg a feel so swollen and massive and there is an obvious bump. ITs to early for it tO be a baby bump and it feels like I've had a 4
Course meal all the time. I wear tight pencil skirts for my uniform and im on my feet all day. I don't want ppl to know as it's too early and I feel like an elephant in drag. Is this normal? How can I get rid of it?

Hi Invisible soul, have the bloat too. Last week couldn't zip up my jeans :-(
I am trying to note what foods I eat that make it worse and eating several small meals rather than a few large ones. At work I am wearing dresses rather than skirts is this an option for you? Good luck. :-)

Hi! Yes, I'm 10 weeks and have terrible bloating. I think the iron in my Pregnacare tablets are making me constipated (sorry, tmi!) so might talk to my midwife about going back to just folic acid...

Drink more than you ever think you could need. At the beginning, your body has alot of responsibilities and bits n pieces to create, all of which involve fluid. eg your blood volume needs to increase by 25% and this requires alot of drinking. You might find this helps the bloat...or you could just be like me and be loading your weight gain at the beginning of your pg. The MW used to tut at my weight gain...but it does even out...honest.
Congrats by the way

I had a lot of water retention at the start (across my whole torso - not specifically belly) and it went after a while. I won't say I haven't put on weight (I have) or that I can get into my old jeans (I can't) but I wonder how much of your bloating could be addressed by eating more fibre. The body does odd things during the first trimester though and to an extent we just have to put up with them. Congratulations, by the way x

Thanks everyone! I will drink more water! And I have Stocked up on healthy snacks and nice salads. It's amazing how hungry you get! I guess it will be easier when I can tell people why I'm big and fat! But I'm just Worried that I wasn't planning on telling people till 12 weeks, but at this rate there is no way they won't tell before then! I'm a bit scared to do exercise aswell. Especially in the 1st trimester. What do you do?

I was often too tired (fatigued) during my first trimester to do exercise, but on the occasions I could go to the gym I was fine. I just listened to my body, and stopped if I felt too tired after all, or if I got dizzy, and I stopped doing sit ups because even at that early stage they felt uncomfortable and "wrong". But I'm second trimester now, my energy has picked up, and I go to the gym at least twice a week. Just listen to your body, is my advice.
