Stitch-like pain in (very) early pregnancy?

Hi ladies

First pg for me, so completely unsure of everything!

I'm about 3-5 weeks pg (awaiting first appointment to confirm) and since mid-morning I've been having a stitch-like pain in my right side.

It doesn't feel 'low' enough to be around my overies etc, but it's definitely not a normal stitch. It sometimes gets worse when I move or breathe in, I wouldn't say it's unbearable but it is making me fret a bit.

I do have an appointment with my GP on Thursday. Do you think this pain is anything to worry about in the meantime? I googled it and got mixed responses.

Thank you x

Ohhh the belly pains. Yes, I've had these up til 13 weeks and counting. The only thing you want to decide is if you've got the kind of pain that's more severe and might indicate an ectopic pregnancy. I decided that I didn't. You can expect the stitches in the weeks to come...

Can you visit an early pregnancy unit? They should be able to do an internal scan or at least blood test to see what's going on.

Sounds like you may have pulled a muscle (but I'm no medical expert). Give your midwife a call and ask for advice on the phone if you're worried. I had cramps in early pg and a bit of spotting - all fine, turned out my body was adjusting to having twins. Bodies all cope differently with pg so might be just one of those things.

Google is always a bad idea - do it myself though and dh arrives home to find me a mess! Smile

Good luck.

You must be aware of the ectopic risk so if the pain worsens, you feel ill, bleed, experience shoulder tip pain or are worried at all, seek help.

But I get implantation pain and it feels exactly like a stitch, slightly different place to a stitch and is sore if I stretch up too much (putting my arms above my head for example 'pulls' and makes me catch my breath). It's one of the ways I know I'm pregnant.

Chuck in stretching pains, relaxing ligaments, corpus luteum attaching, hormones rising etc. There are lots of reasons for pain but for me stitch like pain is implantation.

Thank you all for your responses.

I don't have a midwife to call, and not sure about the early pregnancy unit. I may ring the main hospital to find out.

It's not getting worse I don't think, so I will maybe wait til my GP appt on Thursday and mention it then if it's still there.

Thanks again for the advice (and for putting me off googling - think I'd better stop that habit before it forms!!)

x

I had a stitch pain on my right just where belly started popping out from around 12-26weeks. Like you it was if I was walking around. Doctor wasn't really bothered. It went away by it's self, no idea what it was.

As others said, if it gets worse, or you feel it while idle, please seek help.

It could even be ligaments stretching. I still get it now at 36+5 )

It doesn't sound like much to worry about, but do go in to hospital if it gets more severe.

Second time around I got a lot of aches and pains, far more than the
first time, for about the first ten weeks. Some were more achey ligament pain, but a stitch-like pain came and went too. My scan revealed 2 degenerating fibroids, which I'm told are no real cause for concern but which will be monitored just in case. Do mention the pains and where they are to your sonographer when you have a scan and s/he will check it out for you.

p.s. DO NOT Google degenerating fibroids.

Hi all, just thought I'd give you an update, and thanks again for your advice.

Turned out it was a nasty kidney infection - I ended up in a&e last Wednesday night after the pains got even worse - I had blood, nitrate, protein and all sorts of other goodies in my urine! On antibiotics now.

Just relieved it wasn't anything pregnancy-related.

Anyhoo, thanks again x

Glad to hear you're OK Tallulah! Well, apart from the infection, like. Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy.

I'm about 3-4 weeks pregnant...found out today!

I had implantation cramps with my DS and now again with this one. Lower back and upper thighs and my uterus, around my hips is all achey and horrible.

It does ease off, apparently it's mother nature's way of letting you know you're pg without POAS.

Try warm baths and hot water bottles. Soon enough the morning sickness will kick in and you'll forget about the pains.. I personally cannot wait. Hmm

Yes it does feel like your period is a-coming. Mother nature trying to trick me into a false sense of security.

So yeah I found out I'm pregnant took a clear blue and 2 other ones I'm only 2-3 weeks the clear blue says however I had intercourse tonight and there was a little blood with tiny ball looking things but no bigger than a seed then I went to toilet wiped and there's a little tiny blood ball again and extremely light blood almost like it's not even there I also have a pain in my side but it's nothing unbearable I was having this before the bleeding it's like a stitch however if I move suddenly it's like something is pulling or tearing it's uncomfortable!! I don't yet have a midwife as my appointment isn't until 14th of March and I'm not sure if my gp will take me to discuss this as when I called about being pregnant the receptionist didn't even put me through just said it's midwife self referell I had to call can someone help do I call the doctor if so what do I say or do I don't want to go all the way to hospital if it's natural as I don't want to cause my body any more stress than already I've seen people get spotting I'm just scared as it started after intercourse and I have read that intercourse doesn't harm your baby !!! I feel so scared in case anything has happened and it's my fault for having sex to early on !! Someone help please

Hi! Fount out I was pregnant at 3 weeks with my third child. I just wanted to see if anyone was to experience this.
With my other to children the first few months wasn’t that bad. I’m currently now 8 weeks
For the last month I’ve been unable to do anything, I’m to tired to the point washing my hair is a extreme sport! Any kind of food ( from three weeks) makes me feel so so sick, I just feel so extremely poorly, my breathing feels faster to, I’m out of breathe so quickly. I’ve been having pain under my ribs, just above my stomach, and on and off painful stitch like pain, on my left side just above my belly button. My midwife appointment is this coming week! Having bloods taken Tuesday, I’m so excited for my third child I’ve just never experienced it to be so extremely hard in the first few months. Wanted to see if anyone else, what helped them? Xxx
