Charity Walk - How far to walk

Hi I'm 9 weeks and am down to do a charity walk at the weekend, 14 miles, and suddenly wondering if it's ok to walk that far? Sounds a bit bonkers but hey it's my first and I'm questioning a lot of things that a logical mind wouldn't worry about!
Thankfully not suffering sickness but do get quite tired, in fact don't feel that pg at the mo due to lack of symptoms. I've got my MW appt on Monday 28th and feel a bit silly calling up to ask if it's ok to do the walk.

I think it probably depends on how much you walk normally and how much of a physical exertion this will be for you. If you do lots of walks on a regular basis (daily/weekly), then it's probably going to be fine if you go at an okay pace and you stay hydrated (so you don't overheat, etc. etc.).

When I found out I was pregnant, I stopped running straight away as I had only just re-started after a long break. However, I did carry on with 1.5 hour daily walks with my dog as this was continuing what I was doing anyway.

If in doubt, you could always consult your midwife?

I walk every day and as you say as long as I'm sensible and keep hydrated and have snacks to nibble on should be fine. Thank you for you advice Saffra.
Was also wondering if I could take up running again after first twelve weeks.

Enjoy your walk! I didn't stop running before 12 weeks - that bit of advice must have passed me by! - and still run at 21 weeks, though I think it'll get a bit uncomfortable to carry on soon. Need a belly bra...

I reckon you'd be fine at that gestation, especially if you're used to doing a lot of walking.

I was walking 10 miles or more (with breaks) in a day at 17 weeks with my last pregnancy and although I was a bit sore as SPD was on the way in, it was very doable. But then I love walking!

I also reckon you will be fine...I was at The New Forest the other weekend and did a 7 mile woodland walk...but I am 34 weeks!!

You'll be fine...just drink plently and pace yourself..Smile

Agree with others it depends on how much walking you usually do. I did a 13.1 mile run when I was 9 weeks but I had been training for it for months before finding out I was pg.

I agree. I went on a walking holiday in Northumbria a couple of weeks ago and did about 40 miles over the course of 5 days (and I'm 35 weeks pg). However, I also climbed barbed-wire fences and crossed fast-flowing rivers (which I wouldn't recommend).
Good luck with the walk!

Thanks for the advice, will be walking with my mum and sister so couldn't ask for better support, encouragement and giggles along the way. :)
