Tips on hiding a bump?

jenga079 · 13/03/2011 22:19

My bump appears to be growing every minute. I'm ridiculously excited about this and spend the weekend pushing it out even more, but I'm a teacher and don't want the kids to know until after the anomaly scan (on Wednesday)

Any tips for hiding / covering it until then?

Tops with ruching (not sure how to spell it!) on the front, especially over the tummy part - know that kind where the material is gathered so it sort of ripples? - are good for hiding bumps, ditto ruffles, gathered material, and cross-over styles.

Clever layering such as a t-shirt or vest with a long cardigan over the top that can be buttoned (boyfriend style cardigans are ideal).

Anything with an empire waist on it.

Choose accessories that draw attention elsewhere such as a bright necklace, earrings, etc.

Paint a massive fake spot on your nose / chin? The little shits dears will be way too busy snorting with laughter at that to register anything else.

Congratulations, btw.

A loose floaty blouse with a fairly busy pattern (big floral?). Good luck!

Loose layers - I second the loose top with jacket/cardi and scarf over the top advice. Scarves that hang down to tummy level, if you are allowed at work (obv not if you're a science or design tech teacher!) are great at disguising a bump. I found that things that were gathered over the tummy made me look more pregnant than things that just hung down straight, but think it depends what shape you are and what you usually wear.

Empire line tops / dresses, waterfall style cardis, scarves etc. Remember to keep your bottom half slimline. I'm in the same boat as I'm not telling my boss until after my scan on Thursday!

It's a good job this is #4. Bizarrely I've got smaller with each pg. With my first, it was obvious within a few weeks!

Thank you all. I managed today with a baggy top, long cardigan and super bright scarf to draw attention away. One cow pupil did ask why my top had 'bat like wings' and said 'don't wear it again miss, it makes you look fat'

I also inadvertently took Grumpla's advice by accidentally covering my chin in board marker. It took me at least two periods to notice so that was two classes successfully distracted Smile
