Swimwear for Aquanatal

Hi all,

I am just 12 weeks pregnant with my first baby and am keen to go to Aquanatal, but first I will have to solve the problem of what to wear!! My current swimming costume doesn't fit over my new and improved boobs, and I was thinking that maybe something like a tankini would be better and last me through the pregnancy? I guess a bikini would be ideal but my stomach is now quite hairy!!! Blush

If you think a tankini is a good way to go, can anyone recommend any?

Thanks for your help!

A non maternity tankini won't last you through the pg I'm afraid! I got a nice maternity cossy from New Look IIRC, but I suspect that might be a bit big round the belly for you now! You might have to go for a 2 stage approach - buy something in a bigger cup size for now and for after DC is born, and then upgrade to a maternity one when you need it.

I'd go for a maternity swimsuit. I started wearing mine at 15 weeks and the design seemed to mean it didn't look baggy and it still has loads of room to stretch. Mine's from Next, the only issue with it is the cup support isn't great.

Thanks girls - I'm already getting a bit of a belly (bloating I think!!) but had just assumed that a maternity cossie would be huge. Maybe I'll go and try some on, have just been having a look and the Next ones are gorgeous and not very expensive which is great! Otherwise Ginger's approach sounds like a good way forward and saves any indecision in the meantime! Thanks for your help!

Pink you've answered my question for me Grin to Next it is, I bought a normal one from there and it washed/wore really well

I can recommend Figleaves for their selection of maternity costumes. Mine is a Zoggs one and so far has seen me through from 12 wks to 26, with ever expanding bazongas and of course the space hopper sized bump. I'm confident it wil last me to the end, though whether I will be able to haul myself out of the pool by that stage ia another thing!

I was also pleasently (spelling? soz!) by the Mothercare range and not to expensive either.

I think Asda also do them.

I go to a different pool now at 31 weeks rather than my local one as they have a 'beach' so I just have to walk out Smile

For my first pg I just bought bigger swimsuits, but this time round I thought I'd try a proper maternity one.
I got this tankini from mamas & papas (saw a recommendation on here) & it's great. I wore it from quite early on & it didn't look too big then and it still covers all my bump at 35wks. I do aqua natal classes in it & have had no problems with support either.

I just hope I can find one as good when I'm not pg!

I've got a tankini from mothercare. It's fine for swimming, but it's a nightmare for aqua-aerobics - I have to tuck the top into the bottoms to stop it flowing back over my bump! I'm now almost 34 weeks, so not going to bother to get a new one. But, I wish I'd bought a one piece, to be honest.

Hello all thought I'd let you know I've got a black maternity tankini from Next - it's lovely and was cheap! Grin AND not too baggy!

sounds odd but if I do aquanatal can I wear a swimsuit with men's long swimsuits over the top?
