Ok, I have the bags (lovely Christmas pressies). What do I pack for hospital?

As the title says, I have the bags, I just need to pack them and as I am 35 weeks pregnant I ought to get on with it asap!

I should know what I need really, but I had dd nearly 6 years ago now and cannot remember much.

I don't want to look on websites for lists because they often suggest things that are not really essential. So wise Mumsnetters, can you help me out here?

Vests and baby gros, scratch mittens and socks.clothes to deliver in, (nightie/vest/bikini top) Clothes for you, I preferred leggings and tshirts to permanent pjs for me, slippers, toiletries, lots of mat pads, breast pads, nappies, nipple cream, dressing gown, magazines and books for entertainment and lots and lots of food! (hospital food is crap)!

Depends on how long you are planning to stay in and also what your view on taking a huge bag is. My view was that I didn't want to, so went to hospital in crocs (it was april) with socks, they doubled up as slippers/flip flops and shoes. I also travelled there in pjs which I laboured in, until my waters broke at which point they got soaked so I took them off. My bag was pretty small - we stayed in labour room and went home from there so didn't need that much.

you do need:

  • clean pj's for afterwards - i went home in these with my coat ontop!
  • underwear, ideally black/stretched out old knickers and a feeding bra.
  • maternity sanitary towels
  • toiletries - i had travel sachets of shower gel, small toothpaste, etc etc
  • towel (although could have got from hospital)
  • food (mainly for DH)
  • babygros/vests/nappies/cotton wool

I have a small bag for babies things and a slightly roomier one for my stuff as I do remember it being easier to keep them separate.

I definitely need some more loose clothing to go home in and wear after the birth as I have literally been living in the same two pairs of jeans and leggings for the last month. I haven't bought any feeding bras yet and I'm starting to panic about being disorganised.

I have been feeling sick for the whole pregnancy, so haven't been out and about much, hence being so low on clothes etc, but I really need to bite the bullet now.
