3rd pregnancy this year, a record? What are my chances of actually NOT miscarrying?

Yep 3rd pregnancy this year, 2 MC earlier this year.
(Not a record I really want , I would've prefered to have a baby of course!)
I can't believe I'm pg again, :) and v excited, however, with losing 2 already this year what are my chances going full term.

Anyone in a similar situation or had a similar experience?

Your chances of a third mc are 1 in 125, or 5%. Really no more than they would be if you had never miscarried. Good luck, lots of sticky vibes coming your way :)

Everyone is different and I really hope this one stays with you.

Hard as the stats may seem when you are on the recieving end of them, there is a reason why the NHS don't do any tests unless you've have 3 MCs in a row. I have had the joyHmm of a consultant say to me in a healthy woman one is common, two is unlucky but 3 is unlikely.

I had 2 MCs in a year before having my DD 3.5 years ago and I had another MC this time last year, but I'm now 34weeks pregnant with DD2.

If you can get a reassurance scan at 8 weeks through your GP or midwife that might help how you feel about things. It's hard being excited and terrified out of your whits at the same time and with early pregnancy knackeredness it can be a bit much. Depending on where you live you may have to fight for this - my midwife rang the hospital on my behalf a few times until she got someone she knew would be sympathetic as policy is no scans before 12 weeks unless you have pain or bleeding.

I really hope you 'luck' has changed and you have a very uneventful Christmas and that baby in 2011.

Do you think you might have some kind of immunity problem? If so, there are things you can do about that.

Anyway, really hope you don't, and that you have a happy outcome with this pregnancy.

All the best!

Me too! Miscarriage in February at 6 weeks, one in July at 12 weeks and am now 11 weeks. I'm terrified. Had a scan at 7 weeks because of a really bad bleed. I had been feeling so, so, so sick from 6 weeks- 10 weeks but then lost all my symtpoms, so feared the worst. But I had a dr's appointment a few days ago and we heard the heartbeat with the doppler. It is SUCH a roller coaster. I really haven't let myself feel excited- just feel like I am trying to get through until I can relax a bit.

wowee!!
Thanks ladies!

LULU good luck, a heartbeat is such good news isnt it? Hope its a good one for you.

I think my age (42) may have something to do with it, but had 2 DCs at 38 and 39, so not that much older.

We have a friend who does private scanning, but alas closed for Christmas, even if we could've got there with flippin snow everywhere!

humbug... am hoping we can be twins (sort of) Grin.

Am also 42, have also had 2 MMCs this calendar year so far (3 since Aug 09), although I'm not pg yet, but I confess to being a bit hopeful for this month.

I only have one DS, born when I was 40.

Have all crossed for you. and also for me that I will follow happily in your footsteps.

Me! I'm 42 as well. Had 4 mc in total, including mc in March, July and then pg in Sept, now 14 wks.
I had testing after the July mc and have a number of issues that are now being managed. Who knows whether this current pg would have happened anyway.

Really excited for you, hope the next one sticks...and dont listen to anyone who tries to write you off because of your age. 42 is not old
xx

Best of luck Humbug, I know how it feels. Had two mcs in the last two years - one at 7 weeks, one discovered at 14 week scan - but got pg for the third time almost straight away and am now 27+3.

I thought after two mcs I would never get there, and ok I'm not quite there yet but am well on the way. There is every chance you will have your baby next year!

I had two miscarriages followed by a chemical pregnancy that led to very heavy bleeding and anaemia. Felt really lousy and run down only to fall immediately pregnant again. Thought that there wasn't a chance in hell this one would be okay as I was so run down and now I'm 34 weeks.

Seeing the heartbeat was fantastic but I must admit to being about 20wks before I could allow myself to believe that this one might go to term.

Congratulations and I hope things work out for you. Do you have an early pregnancy unit near by that you can have a 7week scan with?

Another one here with two MMC within a year - now pg again!

I went for an early scan at 8 weeks and told DH not to bother coming along as I expected it to be the same as the others... and even when I had my 12 week scan I told him not to come as I thought it would have gone pear-shaped by then! (Glass half empty and all that...)

I really thought there was something catastrophically wrong with my reproductive bits and didn't want to go through it all again, so we weren't even trying - but now 22 weeks and all seems well! I have even bought a couple of teeny outfits!

(Waves at Jollster - good luck! I think we were on the MC board at the same time earlier this year...)

I too had a MC and then conceived again ... started bleeding at six/seven/eight weeks and was heartbroken.

She is now a lovely 13 year old girl, so, yes, you very definitely can have a happy ening.

I had 4 pgs in 18 months, 3 mcs then a successfull (bouncing baby boy!) one. Who knows why it was fine the 4th time, I'm just so so grateful it was. I was 37 then.

It would seem that it most definately can happen, all the best to you and your (growing) family

I had DS1, DS2 and then 2 MCs in a row - utterly devastating Sad. Another third time lucky person here, though, am 33 weeks with DS3 Smile - wishing you all the luck in the world.

I'm so sorry to hear all the sad stories you ladies have had :(
but so pleased to hear the following successes after so much heartache.

I feel more confident but still hate the wait til I get a scan and eventually see /hear the heartbeat.

Good luck to all those trying :)

Yep, I'm on 3rd preg in 12 months too. Am about 6 months now Grin

The way I look at it is that they say 1 in 3 pg ends in MC, which means I'm due 4 healthy babies! (DH goes a bit pale when I say this Grin)

Ask for an early scan if you think it will help you relax. My MW said I could go in whenever I wanted to listen to the HB too.

Congratulations! x

I managed to get pregnant four times in a year; miscarried Nov 07, ruptured ectopic Christmas 07, miscarriage April 08, pregnant Sept 08.... DD2 arrived safely May 09! It won't surprise any of you that DD2's middle name is Hope!

I have had 2 MCs this last year and whilst I am not pregnant yet I am taking comfort in the statistics that there is a less than 1% chance that the next one will be a MC.

Also, as my DH said to me recently, when I get pregnant again there are 2 outcomes,

  • MC then they will investigate us as I will be recurrently MCing OR
  • we have a baby (the preferred option of course).

Good luck to everyone who is pregnant x

Sorry should add that I had had 1sttmiscarriage 4 years ago so we did have some invreeestigations. Altho my blood screen did not indicate a need my consultant put me on low dose aspirin. I can only assume that has helped. I am 40.
