Reliable Pregnancy Test when Breastfeeding?

ItchyTits · 19/12/2010 15:33

Erm... DD took 40 years to come along and is now nearly 9 months old (very gorgeous btw Grin) however, thought I felt a little 'funny' and two home testing kits had TWO lines. Really not sure if I'm ready for this. Will go to docs tomorrow......

Can anyone give me reason to disbeleve? I don't know what to think!

Breastfeeding has no influence on pregnancy tests, sorry(?)

40 years?!

Congratulations, 2 lines are 2 lines - looks like you're pregnant! It's always a shock at first, give yourself a bit of time and then see how you feel.

Breastfeeding can impact your ability to conceive especially in the first six months, but as the others have said, makes no difference whatsoever to a pregnancy test. False positives are extremely rare and unlikely so I would say congratulations are in order!!

Sometimes having a baby can sort out whatever the problem was in the first place, so maybe that's what happened!

Thank you all for responding. I popped into the GP today as DD is poorly - and to get the test confirmed by the hospital - the doctor just laughed when I said I thought I was pregnant. He seemed to find it hilarious!!

Loopymumsy, thanks for that. How have you found the 18mo gap? Already DD isn't keen on sharing.... but I'm aware she's a bit young for that. Think this all may turn me a little more loopy!

Happy festivities everyone Smile

PS Just expressing shock that a second should come easily after turning 40.....

Thanks Loopy. It's reassuring to hear that you are having so much fun. I'm just a little pessimistic today. DD has flu, I'm shattered and we're contemplating a trip 5 hours away to see the in-laws.

I think underneath all this, I'm very excited!

Were you terribly organised with the first children before the next were born?
