piles - feeling miserable...

I don't often write my own threads on here, but I'm feeling really low today. I was hoping you lovely ladies may be able to help cheer me up.

I'm only 18 weeks with DC3 but have already got the dreaded piles :( I had them with both previous pregnancies and they really got me down. I didn't see the doctor last time, though I'm now thinking perhaps I should go, is it worth it? I found the over the counter ointments to be pretty rubbish - they really didn't help at all. Will the doctor be able to give me anything better?

Also I have suddenly been feeling very tired. Did anyone else get this suddenly around this time? Apart from being sick at the beginning I really haven't felt that pregnant - not like with my other DCs. I had been thinking I had got lucky this time but now I'm so sad to realize that this pregnancy will probably be just as hard.

TMI ALERT!!!!!

Hi there, I am 29 weeks with my first, and have had constant problems with piles (since before getting PG too!).. I feel your pain (literally!!).. Sorry if this is TMI but what sort are they? Do they come from the inside and poke out on the outside? lol. Sorry I know that sounds gross.. But I've found that if they are like that then if you can bear to - use your finger with some vaseline and poke them back inside yourself after having a BM. I know that sounds really gross, but for me it's the most amazing relief! Since discovering this method - I no longer walk around all day feeling like something is down 'there'. You should also then use Anusol straight away. If they are painful still - run yourself a quick shallow bath at the same time so you can jump in - it's also very good at relieving the pain.

Apart from this advice - it's the obvious thing of eating lots of fruit etc.

Hope it gets better soon! x

Hi sorry your suffering they are horrid :( plenty of prunes etc make sure you keep your poo soft cause if you get hard at all you'll be in agony, (tmi alert) iv had them burst and bleed a lot and they are so bad! I found having a plastic jug in the bathroom which id fill with warm water for cleaning after opening my bowels cause of the swelling its very hard to effectively clean with paper alone and wet wipes sting like hell if the piles are cut but I really found the warm water really helped. I used the anusol ointment helped a bit and i found vasaline helped a bit too if I stuck it on to open my bowels... I did get something else from my doctor when I was in hospital when pg with ds2 but to be honest it wasn't fantastic... Warm bath with camomile and tea tree essential drops in it helped to, even if you can just swish your bum in it for 5 min it will ease it a bit. And iv often been know to sit on a hot water bottle Blush but ya do anything when ya hunt! Anyways hope it eases off for you soon!

lizandlulu - I don't know both dcs were c-sections. Perhaps someone else can help there?

I'll try the tips everyone has offered. Thank you so much.

boots own hem cream contains a small amount of anaesthetic and i found it much more effective than the other popular name brand i used previously. i found my gp useless, but the chemist was very helpful and clued up on all things pregnancy. I've read on other threads that doctors may be able to give you stronger ointments, so worth asking, especially before they get worse.

18 weeks was difficult for me and found i got my energy back by around week 20. Hang in there!
