Please talk to me about your experience of bleeding in pregnancy

I'm 12 ish weeks pregnant and basically I've blead almost constantly since about 5 weeks. I've had a load of scans, all of which show a healthy baby but it's just so worrying. Every so often the bleeding gets very heavy and is bright red, sometimes with clots. The rest of the time it's very dark old blood and varies from being quite a lot to spotting. (sorry tmi)

They origionally said I'd lost a twin but are now saying that may not have been the case and it could have just been a bleed. Has anyone else had anything similar to this and what happened in the end? Also were you given any particular advise as to how to prevent more bleeding?
Thanks for reading.

With my ds I had a bleed at around 10 weeks and as I had had 2 early miscarriages i was sure that was it, but a scan showed he was fine. Then at 12 weeks (bang on 12 weeks - the day before my scan) I had a massive gush of bleeding and I was absolutely sure that there was no more baby, but miraculously he was fine again and I continued on to have a healthy baby boy!

I have to say it meant i had a very paranoid pregnancy - very different to my pregnancy with dd 5 years earlier, in which nothing except sickness bothered me but I have since come across friends who have had all manner of big/small/frequent bleeds and carried babies to term.

Good luck.

I had a significant bleed at 14wks, obvious panic, DH assumed it was a miscarriage, but scan showed baby fine and no reason was found. Happened again at 19 wks and 25wks. It is stressful but nothing was wrong and she was born healthy and whole. I hope your experience will be the same as mine.

Good luck

Thanks alittlebitshy and mj. It's great to hear some success stories.

When it's been at it's heaviest it's been a sudden gush of blood soaking right through my knickers and trousers an a few seconds, then becoming much lighter very soon after. I'm really trying not to get stressed but the whole pregnancy including conception has been incredibly stressful. Dp occasionally tries to tell me that worrying and stressing will make it worse but that's making me worry more! ( you seem to be sorting out my whole life for me at the mo mj! Grin)

Sorry x posts with a couple of people. Thanks for your replies.

strawberrysam I've heard about low laying placentas and have wondered if that's what I have. I've had a couple if weeks at home taking it easy and have also cut my hours at work quite a lot. I've told quite a lot if people about the pregnancy and my family are being great. Glad to hear if your good outcome. The worst thing is not knowing when I'm suddenly going to explode! Did you go to a and e every time you had a big bleed by the way? My mw said I should but I'd never be away from the place!

Well, I had 3 of weeks off mj but I'm not sure I could justify 7 weeks (and counting) off. I've cut my hours though.

My boss is very sympathetic but it's a very small business and it causes a lot of problems if I'm not there. My contract says I don't get sick pay but they've given it to me in the past, the odd day or so in 4 years. They were very apologetic about it but when I had 3 weeks off recently they said they couldn't afford to pay me as they had to get someone else in to do my job. I know cutting my hours will reduce my maternity pay but tbh that's the last thing on my mind.

I can't wait till I can feel the baby move! It really must take the stress away.

Yes, I got some ssp but it's not much. Thanks mj I think I did too much today, which is why it's been worse. But the house is already a complete tip and although dp is trying to be helpful if I don't do the majority of cleaning etc. nobody does. But that's another thread I think!

Might take next week off.

Lol strawberrysam I'll probably be doing that too! I've already become a bit of a scan junkie!

I consider myself well and truly told off mj Grin.

Just 1 more question to you all though. When I first had bleeding the dr told me to avoid sex and baths ( as well as taking it easy) Did you all do that. I'm really missing baths, the sex I can live without! Grin.

I bled for 15 weeks and went on to have very healthy twins. I worried all the time so know where you're coming from, impossible to put it out of your mind.

I did take it easy but not that much - I too was in a small company and so sick days ( even when I was puking 10 times a day) weren't an option. I hope you get some time to put your feet up!

I had spotting at 12 weeks so had a scan and all was well. At 28 weeks I had a gush of bright red blood that went all the way to the floor. I was very frightened but not able to get to a hospital so just rested up. When I eventually spoke to my Dr she was very relaxed about it and said it was probably caused by having sex. I actually couldn't believe it when I finally had a healthy baby at 38 weeks. Hope all goes well.
