can u still go into labour if you have a breech baby?

hi,

is it possible to go into labour if your baby is breech?

odd question i know but as the head isn't down on the pelvis wondering if you can even go into labour?

having contractions though but they don't keep going..

Yes some people go on and deliver naturally with a breech baby so they must have gone into labour!

Of course.

People go into labour with babies in breech, transverse, OA, OT, OP positions, engaged, not engaged etc.

While the baby's head being in the pelvis helps labour along, the actual onset of labour is still not understood but probably some chemical reaction between your baby and your body.

Definitely!! I got to the pushing stage with breech DD and only discovered she was 'bum down' at the last minute when they whisked me off for an emcs!

I'm 38 +3. Just found out she is breech. She is my second pregnancy. I'm booked in to have her turned in a week. Does this hurt? Can u still go into labour even if she isn't engaged?

I went into labour with my breech baby the day before my ELCS. Labour progressed really fast (FTM) but I still ended up having a c-section that evening as his little feet were tangled in the umbilical cord and they told me it would be risky to carry on naturally, for this reason only. The consultant did tell me that my body had done all the hard work of labour and it would be good preparation for the natural birth of the next baby.

Do not hang about if there is a chance you are going into labour. Please get checked out. You can deliver vaginally if your baby is a breech presentation but it does carry more risks. It would not be great for the bottom to engage deeply into the pelvis
