How did you tell your DH/DP you were pregnant?

Just wondering as there are some nice stories on another thread about how people told their partners :)

I did my pg test when I woke up in the middle of the night - was half asleep and initially went back to bed and thought I'd tell DP in the morning. In the end I woke him up about ten minutes later switching the light on, giving him his glasses (practically blind without them) and waving a pee-ey stick in his face going 'guess what!'

DP was like.. 'Wow you're pregnant! But why are you telling me at 4.00am??'

I was a bit sh!t actually. we hadn't been trying, but I had realised I was late, and had been impossibly tired after a weekend away, so had mooted the possibility that I might be (which was OK with both of us, although a bit Shock).

So then Monday morning, he said 'well get a test today then and we'll do it tonight'.

Exceot I couldn't wait, got the test, did it at 8.45 am at work, and then emailed him (yes...emailed him) to say 'you know the thing that we didn't know if it might be a thing or not, well, turns out, it is actually a thing'.

And that was that. I think it was a pretty cr@p way to tell him but he didn't seem to mind!

I put the stick in his shoe.

so when he put them on in the morning he would have a happy surprise.

No! instead he said "urgh what the fuck is that?"
The moment was gone! Hmm

Lol at Fluffy's DH!

1st pregnancy - he was in NY and I was home, waiting for period to arrive as I was due to have blood tests to start first cycle of IVF. Tested absolutely convinced I wasn't pregnant, just thinking that testing would bring it on iykwim. Sat around all day in a daze of amazement. Was going to wait 2 days to tell him in person when he got back, but he phoned that night and said "what's up with you, your voice is really weird" as I was trying to act cool so I just blurted it out.

His response was "you're joking?.... you're joking? no way" but more because we were so convinced IVF was our only option.

2nd pregnancy - put the test in an envelope, gave it to 7 month old DD to give to him when he got in from work. He didn't even know I was suspicious so big surprise (no periods yet as was still ebf DD). He looked at it and said "what does this mean?".

But then we had a big cuddle with DD which was lovely.

3rd pregnancy - I went upstairs to test, he was downstairs making lamb casserole. I came down with a ridiculously big grin on my face, gurning like an idiot. He just laughed and tried to cuddle me despite having a massive knife in one hand and meat juice all over both hands.

We were still grinning inanely 2 days later.

Awwwwwwwww Grin

I had decided to test a couple of days after the earliest day I could, as there were some cheap early responses in the chemist.

I tested, fully convinced it'd be negative, and up popped the line - it was second month of trying after an ectopic and I am over 40!

So I ran down the stairs squealing and waving the test in the air :)

With DS I ran screaming out of the hotel bathroom shouting 'oh my fucking god' and shoved the test infront of his nose. Grin

With this baby, I poked the stick infront of him while he was working from home and said 'er, I think that's a line - what do you think?'.

My OH was visiting his family in Spain and I was home alone. We had been trying but I was convinced I wasn't pregnant as I'd been my usual pre-period moody self but I woke up at 7:15am and decided to "just check". I did the test and then phoned him at his parents, woke him up and told him the news. He then couldn't wait to get home :)

Mine is along the same lines as Deliaskis.

We'd been TTC for 3 years with no luck, my cycle was all over the place due to PCOS, had our first appointment at the fertility clinic the next day and I'd not had a period for 7 week (not unusual). Bought a test in my lunch hour with my recently PG friend egging me on. Did it at work because i was convinced after 3 years of peeing on sticks for them never to tell me what i wanted there was no chance i was pregnant. Lo and behold it was a BFP. Went back to my desk to get my mobile, which for some unknown reason refused to work so I had to email him! I think it was something along the lines of:-

"I know this isn't the way you are meant to find this out but my phone is F@&£ed and wont let me call you."

He emailed back "What am I not meant to find out" in my shock I'd forgot to say i was pregnant!!!! Baby brain kicked in early for me!

For the first one I was all sentimental and bought a 'Congratulations' card and stuck it on the table so he'd see it straightaway when he came in. Inside was 'You're going to be a Daddy'.
The next 2 I yelled at him 'Oh shit, I'm PG!' Grin

I'll be telling DP tonight at about 10.00 when he gets back from a business trip.Last time around I ruined it for him as I had spent the whole day googling effects of alcohol in early pregnancy (had a big night out before I knew). So he was excited for about one nanosecond before I filled his head with all my doom and gloom.

Tonight I am planning to say I have good news and bad news. Bad news: a bit fell off the bottom of the car. Good news: I'm pregnant! He'll then be too excited to try and pin car damage on me.

I announced it with a loud 'OH BOLLOCKS' from the bathroom. DP, halfway through a bacon sarnie, choked.

We then went to watch the grand national at the pub and he got wasted and shouted at horses.

It got better from that point on Grin

2nd pg I text a photo of the pee stick to him while he was at work and he phoned me crying (happy tears!) Sadly it ended in mc but we're trying again so fingers crossed x

Dp and I were in a long distance relationship, so I phoned him at work and sobbed down the phone Blush.

In all fairness though she wasn't planned, and it was only a "put my mind at rest" test, rather than a confirming what I already know test Grin.

He left work and had a stiff drink lol.

After doing the test I snuggled back upto DH in bed and said "guess what?" he had no idea so I told him I was pg & he totally didn't believe me & had to go check the HPT himself!

I've repeated the "guess what?" thing for another 3 pregnancies & he still never guesses, you'd think he'd have twigged by now!

Fist time i'd pee'd on the stick and left it for the 3 mins, he couldn't wait got back to the bathroom before me and told me it was positive!

Second time I called from the loos in Tesco, saying "well that'll be me pregnant again then!" Maybe I should have waited till he got home Grin

I tested at about 8am just after Dp went to work totally convinced it was negative - no symptoms, not nearly enough sex ! And it was positive, I was so shocked that I just walked round in a daze all day. Tried to call him at work but no joy so at 6pm he comes home and sits at the end of the bed with my first Ds, his step son, and in between hearing about dinosaurs and possible rampaging monsters I tell him we are pregnant !

Cue massive group hug awwwwwwwwww

Cue puzzled faces from both of us. Tried again in the morning and it was much darker! Jumped about for a bit and then went Oh My God. Scary feeling! But good.

My DH guessed. I went into the bathroom to pee on the stick, and when the line came up I said "Oh.....oooooooh!". So the gaff was pretty much up. Grin

I was more shocked than he was.

DH and I spent a good half hour in the bathroom, peering at the stick and trying to work out if the pink line really was a proper pink line or if we were just imagining it. Then he spent the next few hours teasing me for caving in and using one of those digital tests, after I had loudly complained about the adverts: "honestly, who is too dim to be able to spot two lines instead of one on a pregnancy test!" Me, evidently... Blush

Welling up at some of the above..

We weren't trying- DP really wasn't keen. Valentine's weekend away he didn't go prepared, as apparently I'd told him it wasn't a fertile time Hmm Anyway...

I tested on a Friday and line was too faint to be sure. When I tested on the Monday and it was much darker I couldn't bring myself to tell him. Took two weeks of odd stilted conversations and obscure texts. He didn't get it at all and thought I was trying to break up with him! When I finally told him 'I think I might be..' his response was a slightly tetchy 'what do you mean you think?'

He's over it now and excited about being a Dad, but for a while I think he was pretty scared and a bit embarrassed!
