Question for those whos waters broke naturally...

...How did it feel and happen?

Feel silly for asking but when they actually 'popped' what happened directly before it - did the baby move in a way so as to pop them or was the baby still at the time they broke?

Im nearly 38wks and my LO is just so active im wondering if she has more chance of breaking her waters as my DS1 was never this active and never once hurt me from kicking so hard and i had to have my waters popped with him.

Just peoples experiences would help give me a clue! Thanks :)

Well i lifted my leg to turn the hot tap on and it went pop, I got out of the bath was getting dry sitting on the bed thought that was it and then gush Grin

Probably not much help really.

With DS I was in hospital anyway (pre eclampsia) and was asleep. Had really vivid dream about two snooker balls crashing into each other and woke up to find liquid everywhere Grin. Was very glad I was sleeping on hospital bed with plastic sheet etc.

well with DS1 my waters broke in a trickle, not a gush. I never had any 'whoosh' moment! I wasnt even sure it was my waters but apparently so. This was just before I felt any contractions at all (about an hour before) He was breech. He wasnt moving any more than normal.

DS1 I was in established labour when my waters went. I felt the pop and the midwife leaped back lol and just said 'well that was your waters' He wasnt particularly active before the birth and obviously I was distracted by the contractions during so I had no idea it was going to happen.

just a second or two before, my baby did a really really massive scary kick, made me jump, then it felt like a staple gun going off inside, then it started seeping out.

I bent down to get something out of the freezer and felt a gush. I thought maybe I'd pee'd myself Blush but knew I hadn't so got changed and put a pad on. Had a few more gushes and went in to hospital for a trace to check baby was ok. Had DS the following morning.

Ds wasn't particularly active but this LO is crazy! I too wouldn't be surprised to feel it kick and my waters go. Grin

I had a hind- water trickle too, which accompanied my first gentle contraction.
DD was very very active, not in a kicking me way, but churning and dancing around, and she evidently didn't have anything to do with the sac rupturing.

Mine went spontaneously but I couldn't tell you when. Only when I read my notes I saw where it said "SRM ?when" I don't remember either a trickle or a flood at any time before labour so I suppose it must have happened on arrival at hospital, I was 7cm by then though and in full contraction mode.

Its interesting reading all your replies so thanks for sharing! :)

I feel a bit sad i missed out on the whole spontaneous rupture last time as the midwife popped them and silly as it sounds im dreaming of that standing in the kitchen when suddenly a gush of water comes out moment! - probably wont get it as only something tiny like 5% of women have their waters break on their own before contractions start but worth a dream eh?

LO is so active though and like you say thell its more in a fidgity way rather than kicking as shes too big now to get any good kicks in there but it feels like shes actually trying to swim - bum sticks out one side, feet going crazy the other side and arm/hand action going on down in my pelvis all at the same time! She certainly isnt slowing down as she gets bigger anyway!

With DS1, they broke (with a gush) in the hospital a long way into labour. With DS2, I'd literally just got into bed and they went with a gush all over the sheets, and without any actual labour. He was born 36 hours later.

With ds1 they broke a month early as I turned over in bed. He was then induced. With DS2 they broke as i got out of the car in the hospital car park, having been in labour for about 2 hours. He was born 45 mins later. Both times it was a gush rather than a pop.

With DS1 I was induced and so mine were broken by a MW.

So I was hugely surprised that with DS2, they went spontaneously. I went to lie down for a nap at about 4pm. I was just nodding off and they went. I didn't hear a pop but I remember knowing about 1 second before they went, it was about to happen. And it was a gush and thankfully I mananged to get off the bed in time and went to the loo where they gushed for what seemed like ages.

Contrx started about 3 hours later.

DS2 born 10 hours after waters went.

DS was going beserk in the womb for about half an hour, then there was a distinct popping sensation and amnio-a-go-go Grin I did wonder if he'd broken the sac himself, he was really going for it. Previously he'd been limited to wriggling because of lack of space, so perhaps he'd got bored and decided to come out (a week overdue).

Didn't actually go into labour for another 30 hours or so, though Hmm

No gush, but warm trickle both times when I got up in the morning (about half and hour after dh had left for work!). Forewaters went both times. Contractions with dc1 started 6 hours later. No contractions but elective CS with dc2 12 hours later!

Fast asleep - woke up and felt .. wrong ... thought I needed a wee, rushed downstairs thinking my pelvic floor had suddenyl collapsed, then realized what had happened. Was never a pop or a gush, just a constant trickle.
Ds joined us about 21 hours later Smile

wow 45 minutes later he was born! That was good going! hope my labour goes as quick second time around! Grin

I am a little worried though that if my waters did go before contractions started that i may have to be induced (again) to get things going if nothing happened for a long time after. Im sure that wouldnt happen, just suddenly have become quite scared about going into labour now its so close and this time i actually know whats coming which seems to add to the fear!

I lost my waters Sad.

They'd gone by the time I arrived at hospital. No idea where or when they went.

Both times I was doubtful if I was in labour or not but decided to wake DP to let him know things might be moving. Both times I'd just climbed up onto the bed when I felt a sort of bubbly pop, like when you've had trapped wind and it finally moves. Again, both times, I though 'bugger, so it was just trapped wind', cue gush of waters. lol.

Neither DC was being particularly active when it happened and both times labour went up a gear straight away.

The morning of the day I woke up with a rock solid bump and no movement. The night before I had had a extra hot Nandos, a 'last meal' as I was meant to be induced 2 days later.

Anyway, bump had periods of being rock hard all day and then at 10pm (just as Desperate Housewives came on) I felt a gush (like when you are on your period) and ran to the loo. The gushes kept coming and I had some blood so we headed to the hospital. DD was born 10 hours later.

I was in bed and there was a definite pop and then a gush. I also got really really shaky for about 10 mins after - an adrenalin rush I suppose despite the fact I felt quite calm. It was weird. A cup of tea and I was fine. I didn't really have any indication before hand that it was going to happen. I did leak large puddles all over the house as I went to the kitchen to put the kettle on.

I was induced with DD due to pre-eclampsia, and after 3 hours of contractions my hind waters went slowly, followed by another definite pop and gush. She appeared 25 minutes later.
Hope all goes well for you Smile

First time they went as I swung my legs round to get out of bed. No warning at all, not the slightest twinge.

Second time they went when I was in (reasonably advanced) labour as I got out of the car at the hospital.

Lol at piprabbit

Thanks lollymad after the midwife popped my waters because i wasnt dilating fast enough it still didnt seem to intesify or speed things up and i ended up having a drip to speed me up, hence why im convinced if my waters do break naturally labour wouldnt suddenly fly by for me. :(
Its so strange these last few weeks, i am totally ready to have my baby now but at the same time i dont want to go into labour! I thought our instinct is naturally supposed to change us to not fear labour the closer it gets?! Even though i have already gone through it once i feel totally not ready for it again. Im hoping its just a phase and that when the time actually comes i will be ready! ... wishfully hoping! Grin

I woke up feeling like i'd wet the bed, stood up to go to the bathroom and felt it run down my legs. No massive gush, just a trickle.
