Swine flu jab while getting over nasty bug?

I know I should get this done, I've been dithering about it since last autumn when we started to think about getting pregnant again! Grin I'm confident that it's safe for me and the baby (am 27 weeks) and I'm not aware of any problems at birth from all the thousands of pregnant women who were vaccinated last flu season.

Just looked in local village bulletin and the big saturday clinic is this saturday! Ooer. (I am very phobic but I know I've got to do this. Am due bang in the middle of the flu season and could do with one less thing to fret about.) Problem is, I've had a nasty tummy bug that turned into a cold for the past couple of weeks, and have felt like arse. Still feel like arse, though the cold seems to be going at last.

I know it's not advisable to have vaccinations if you're already suffering from a virus. Is this a good reason to postpone the jab, given the clinic is in 3 days' time? I think there's another clinic on the 19th, but I sort of want to get it over with now.

( and can someone hold my hand, please? I'm really very wibbly about the whole needle thing.)

Hmm. I don't actually want to have it stuck in me at all, but if I do, I want it out of the way asap! Grin Thanks for the handholding. I'm a wimp.

I'm sure you're right. Will ask GP but I bet she just says 'oh go for it'.

aye she will as unless you are pyrexic there is no clinical reason to avoid it.

The nurse will ask you if you are well when you go in. If you aren't, I don't think they will do it.

I had it last week. Have been fine. They did tell me that your arm 'aches'. More like being hit by a truck!! Didn't even feel the needle though.

What's pyrexic?

Have heard horrible stories about v v painful arms, but in a stupid way, I'm not worried as much about that as the needle. Blush

Thanks, DP, you've reassured me a lot - anyone else who never even noticed it being done, please feel free to pile in and make me feel better! Grin

I may feel different about having an arm that's been hit by a truck when I have to cope with DS being a stroppy toddler, but at this stage of pregnancy, and being enormous already, I'm trying not to pick him up at all...

Thought it had to have something to do with 'fire'! But for some reason my mind went to 'vomiting' instead. Nope, have not had a fever with this thing.

Thanks, Nicky. Smile

I had to have a lot of vaccinations for work and they used a specialist travel clinic - who kept a bag of jelly babies in the room. I was highly skeptical, but sucking a sweet really did make the injections less painful.

(sorry - that's probably completely useless, but I'm going for the "every little helps" approach Blush:))
