Pregnancy

A bit worried.....

Spent this afternoon in bed after being in the loo for 1/2 hour trying to throw up (and panicking) and then seeing stars and almost fainting.

I am 20 weeks pg and still have pregnancy nausea, but I don't usually feel as grim as this. I am trying to work out if it was panic that caused me to feel so ill (as i am emetephobic, but usually deal with sickness much better than this), or if it was just being pregnant.

I slept all afternoon and have not felt like eating since breakfast, still feeling very sick now. Anyone had anything like this?

It sounds like you may have been a bit panicky. Were you maybe breathing too fast? I am emetophobe too and if I think I'm going to be sick, I do this and I end up with pins and needles in my hands. Was it like that?

The seeing stars sounds like it could be a (low) blood pressure thing. Possibly caused by your position (were you leaning over the toilet - sorry if TMI!)

Maybe best to just pop into your GP/midwife tomorrow to set your mind at rest.

Hope you feel better soon x

Thanks for the replies. I suffered from panic attacks and anxiety for 2 years recently and I am well used to all the symptoms, but I have never got anywhere near fainting before, even at my worst.

I did feel shaky and a little tearful, which was definitely panic, but the feeling faint and seeing lights in front of my eyes was not usual. I was also thinking about low blood pressure, it couldn't have been low blood sugar as I had had some lovely tea and toast for brekkie (only a few hours earlier).

My nausea has been worse again in the last 3 days, and also we had my dp's family round for lunch today, which probably added to things as I was very embarrassed to have to take to my bed..

Hi Rocklover - have been wondering how it's been going.
You know more than anyone how nausea and panic effect you. So if almost fainting and seeing lights is different and unexpected, you should get it checked out ASAP. The main thing I'm thinking that you need to get ruled out is pre-eclampsia - seeing flashing lights is a sign of this. Do you have an emergency MW number you can call out of hours? Can you get yourself to A&E? It's probably all fine - bit please, get yourself seen to. XX

Thanks Cardamom, I am feeling a bit better now and have managed some more toast, so I will call the mw tomorrow to see what she says.

In a seperate incident I got up in the middle of the night to pee last night and managed to lose my footing by tripping up a step. My legs were very wobbly and I ended up on my hands and knees on the floor (bloody flagstone floor), scraped my toes and have a whopper of a bruise on my knee lol.

I just put it down to being tired and disorientated, but now wondering if the 2 things have anything to do with each other.

OUCH!!! You poor thing! Dunno if they are connected, but I remember getting very wobbly and tripping over things when I was about 20-23 weeks. So maybe it's just another fun pregnancy thing??? But probably a good idea to mention it when you call tomorrow. Hope you have a better night tonight - let us know what MW says? XX

I will come back and update tomorrow, still feeling very sicky so I'm mighty fed up. Trying to eat an orange as that's all I fancy, but I'm not getting it down easily.

This is so crap!

Just wanted to reassure you - I have been a serious emetophobe since I was 4 - had not been sick since then until I was 33. When I was eventually sick, I passed out (so I don't remember doing it).

Now when I feel like I'm going to be sick I pass out or feel close to passing out automatically. It's a new development in my panic attacks. I'm sure your episode was just down to the prolonged episode of bad nausea.

Hi, thanks Paige. I have thought that might be what happened, however, I am usually much better with dealing with it. Believe it or not, the weekend I conceived I managed to get the Norovirus, and whilst I was tearful and shaky, I didn't freak out or faint.

In my last pregnancy I was throwing up and had diahorrea and ended up in hospital for a week and I didn't freak out then (although I didn't leave the house for months), so I am non plussed at what happened to me yesterday.

I still feel quite sick today, but managed to drive dd to school and am having some tea and toast now. I have left a message with the midwife, just so I can talk it over with her, I am going to discuss whether the dr may be willing to give me some stronger anti-emetics as the Avomine is definitely not helping anymore.

Just spoken to the mw and she wasn't really that concerned about the nearly fainting episode, but sh did urge me to see th dr to change my sickness meds.

She said the drs at the surgery are usually fairly happy to prescribe anti-emetics and she doesn't think I will have a problem getting the tablets changed. I have an appt for tomorrow morning and feel relieved that I might be able to do something about feeling so dreadful.

I had a faining spell on Friday (am 30 weeks). I was feeling dizzy and then fainted in the shower and felt awful all day.
I was waiting for blood test results to come through so was a bit worried I might be anaemic but after calling midwife this morning she checked my results and said all was normal.

She told me to eat a carb heavy breakfast and maybe some honey. She said it was probably lack of oxygen but not to worry unless it kept happening repeatedly.

Not nice collapsing in a heap though.
Hope you are feeling better after your episode.
