Right rib pain worse at night

I'm 28 weeks and been having this on and off for the last month or so but in the last 2 weeks its got much worse - I had it with DS1 but no where near as bad as this time. We had a growth scan yesterday and we know that DS2 head is right up under my right ribs so that's probably the cause. The ribs are very sore in the day (taking paracetamol regularly) but I can manage but at night its getting much worse - like a knife going through you - it dosen't matter what side you lay on its the same. Last night was the worse I was dosed on paracetamol/pillows/hot water bottle and even got up at one point to do some streaching exercises but I can't have slept for more than 1-1.5hrs at a time - I'm knackered. I've mentioned it to the doc/midwife and they say its just one of those things but not sure I can manage this for another 12 weeks. Is there anything else I can try - done paracetamol, pilates/yoga positions, pillows, hot water bottle - would a chiropracter help?? - any suggestions

Same - though not nearly as bad as your pain sounds.

If I lie on my right hand side it feels like a stitch / ligament being pulled and if I shift to my left for some relief, it aches like I've been punched (maybe what the little blighter inside me has been doing all day!!).

How about swimming? I've been going to the pool weekly and just floating to take the weight off but actually tried some front crawl last week and the muscles between my ribs magically opened up.

You could try a Bowen technique practioner as well. I'm an alternative therapy sceptic, but it worked for me when treated for sciatica.

Hope it gets better Smile

I have this as my baby has her extra long legs right under my ribs and keeps pushing one out of place. I read on another thread to try one of those eyemasks you put in the fridge and that really helped esp. as you can tuck it into a bra to keep in place. I got mine off Ebay for £2. Good luck!

Thanks for your messages - I'll try swimming and the eye mask idea.

All the best
