Itchy nipples at 37 weeks pregnant, could it be thrush?

I have had really itchy nipples the last couple of days and am starting to worry about thrush. They are leaking slightly which makes me wonder if I could have a slight infection feeding off that milk.

I had thrush quite badly when BFing DS and it really slowed my nipples healing so want to catch it early if I get it again. They never itched before but then by the time I had thrush I had painful nipples so may not have noticed it.

Is it possible to have thrush before starting feeding? Is it normal for nipples to itch just because of the changes they are going through?

I've had itchy nipples a lot BFing DD and remember them being bad in late pregnancy. I suffer from excema so think it was that (it never effected this area in the past). Could it be something like that?

I don't have ezcemea and the skin doesn't look dry at all but I suppose it could be, surprised by how itchy it has been and how quickly it came on! Thanks for your reply.

I think itchy nipples are the itchiest thing ever. I'm not sure whether it's down to the fact that you know scratching would be fatal so you are tormented for ages.

I don't know, but incase it is you should start taking a really high strength probiotic now. That's what really sorted me out in the end, thrush in my nipples was worse than labour when bfing!
