How on bloody earth can I keep weight gain down when I feel sick as a pig, need to eat frequently and only white carbs or similar is appealing??

I put on 4st with DS but as I was 10st when started, I was at least slim to start with

However, with this one I was already a bit overweight when conceived..and now I am freaking about gaining another 4st

I am trying my best not to eat very much junk and so far, this is working as its not appealing to me, but I'm having to eat every two hours or so and it seems to be things like salt and vinegar crisps and cream crackers that settle my tummy

I forced myself to have wholemeal toast for breakfast/lunch but it was like chewing on leather...really did not appeal...

Wtf to do?!! Woke up at 6am this morning sooo tired and so hungry that I just staggered to kitchen and grabbed a coissant before crashing back to bed..eeek!!

I have no experience of this but why don't you work out what the calorie value of white carby snacks would be and then spread them out over the day. For instance cream crackers are not that bad - only 35 cals without anything on so they are not too bad at all, a slice of medium white bread is only 80 cals - add jam and prob 120.

yup, I'm the same. I'm nearly 12 weeks and having to eat ALL THE TIME still, and most of the time rubbish - Dh even said today he was concerned at how many packets of crips I'm getting through - but believe me, if I had a choice in the matter I wouldn't eat any! Seriously, at the minute I can't even think about the horrible weigh gain I've had over the past 2 months (must be about a stone already) as i'm just focussing on getting through the next few weeks how I can - and that means eating what I can when I can. I'm hoping once I get an appetite back I can eat more nutritiously and not put too much weight on then (well, too much fat on...I knwo I'll be putting weight on!).

It worries me too, but there's no way I can cut down on what I eat - I tried and just felt worse...

Hi during the first 14 weeks of this pregnancy I was so sick all I could do was eat white carbs to calm the nausea

Lower calorie options i found were rice cakes, walkers salt and vinegar squares (97 calories a pack) Crisp bread ( made of corn)
I have gained a lot more weight with this pregnancy at this stage compared with the last time, but im hoping that I can breastfeed well and that always helps with the weight loss.

If you are hungry you must need it and you also have another child to look after which in itself is exhausting!
( im 18 weeks now and my appetite has reduced a lot!!)
take care

I'm in same boat constant nausea only abated by fizzy drinks and potato snacks.

I'm just working on basis that when I stop being sick I will have to eat very healthily...

i put four stone on last pregnancy i was so small before getting pregnant like 7 stone 10, and all i ate was rubbish all time chineas kfc, rubbish rubbish. i lost the weight well i actually went to a healthier weight 8 and half stone but i went to that within 6 days of having my son. now ive just found out im pregnant again, and im terrified of wanting all bad foods again, ive packed my fridge with fruits and veg. ive actually lost weight in last few weeks now weighing 8 stone, somedays 7, 12. but in the last few days, wensday went to a chineas restraunt, thursday to an italian, friday franki an bennys and later that night a chineas, and last night a chineas again, omg theres just no hope

In my first pregnancy I was exactly the same... I just couldn't help myself... and I was still sick day and night. I didn't put on too much weight though. This pregnancy I have no appetite, and if I do it is for healthy things and I have to make myself eat. I don't think there is much you can do about it apart from maybe try the low calorie options mentioned above. It is awful but you might just have to go with the flow for a bit and try not to feel too fed up.

Ooooohhhhhh hellooooooo!
10st to start for dd (now 5yrs), 10st 10lb when fell pg and now 146 stone at 35 weeks. The first three months went sick/potatoes/sick/potatoes/sick/potatoes.

I've not exactly tried uber hard to stop the scoff but I am trying to walk a minimum of 30 minutes a day in the hope that it'll do SOMETHING!!!! Think I have blagged lovely hubs into a gym membership for Christmas and my god am I going to work my arse off when my gorgeous baby gets here to get back to looking half way decent.

I craved carbs, mainly cheese & onion pasties and mashed potato, up to about 16 weeks. It definitely eased the nausea much better than anything else. Have put on about 1st 10lbs which seems about right to me. (37 weeks now)

I dont think you will do your body any real harm for the short period you need the carbs so scoff away and take every little piece of enjoyment you can from early pregnancy!

In my first trimester I couldn't eat at all, and then in my second semester I literally couldn't stop eating in order to keep the nausea at a manageable level. I gained at least two stone in the second trimester. I am now 32 weeks and I have gained almost 4 stone, so will probably have gained at least 4 and a half stone by the end. I am absolutely not worried about it - I have a good friend who had a baby 7 weeks ago and has lost three of the four stone she gained already without trying, just from fluid loss, breastfeeding, and regularly going for a long walk with the pram. You will lose the weight after the baby comes - its hard enough being pregnant and nauseous without worrying about calories etc. Just eat what you feel you need to. As the pregnancy progresses the nausea will ease off and you will find you need to eat less so you won't keep gaining at the current rate for the whole rest of the pregnancy.

last pregnancy i just thought what the hell to it had a bad preg the only thing that i enjoyed was, feeling him moving and kicking the scans and listning ro heartbeat and of course eating i just thought its only time you can really make the most of it, but this time i dont want to put 4 stone on again i think bout 2 and a half would be a healthy weight gain for me. im gonna try things differently this time had a real bad birth, and gonna start some light excercises this pregnancy and eating plenty of fruit and veg and keep my water intake good. as last time did none of that

I've been eating so much crap this time too. I'm only 12 weeks and haven't put much weight on but feel huge! I'm panicing about having a big baby too as DD was 8 lbs 7.5 ozs and although it's not huge, it is for me as I'm petite.

Wandering Grin Thank you - I thought it was chemical preg but turns out was an evaporation line! One week later, got my BFP!

Had scan on Wed as had slight show Tue eve and so had to get it checked out. Saw Jellybean and heartbeat...am 8weeks on Tues according to dates, but on scan, 7weeks - which I kind of expected as ovulated late, so not too far behind you Smile

I feel huge also if that's any consolation...am tempted to put mat tops on and let it all hang out but can't face the you do know the baby is barely half a cm at this stage dont you comments from work...

beckie90 I seem to be following your diet I can't get enough of junk. I really don't want to put on too much weight...I managed to put on no excess weight in my last pregnancies but then must have been the only person in the world who put on weight whilst BFing - the hunger was insane!!

Same, same, same, all I want to do is consume!

I'm now keeping a food diary, which is extremely useful. Seeing 'good' things written down makes me feel positive about what I'm feeding Baby. Snacking on sweet lettuce seems to help, bizarrely.

It's difficult though. I would swim in mashed potato if I could!

If I absolutely HAD to eat something though, I would. I want to stop at 2 stone 7 weight gain (which is my recommended amount) but not at the expense of being a miserable person for the entire time.

beckie90 · 09/08/2010 16:27

MAHRAIH, what do you think my recommended weight gain would be im 5'6 and i differ through the day from 7 stne 12 to 8 stone?
last pregnancy i gained 4 stone and i thought that was way too much for me

I think its genetic as well as some women just seem to be all bump, regardless of what they eat, others get pregnant in every body part i.e Moi Grin

Am really trying to keep the calories down but struggled so much in work today. Funnily enough, I don't feel as bad this evening so I am wondering if its the tiredness/stress caused by work that actually makes me worse

I was constantly snacking and went to canteen for lunch, heaved at the healthy sandwich display, the main meal of pasta did not appeal at all so ended up eating chips and beans...and man, did they hit the spot!

But Hmm at cals/fat...!!
