Anyone have an elective cs in week 38?

The consultant I want to perform my CS is away in my week 39. He says week 38 is too early, and I'm worried that week 40 will be too late (might go into labour).

Anyone else had a CS at week 38 for non medical reasons? Just wondering if it's a definite no no or worth pushing for it.

Thanks

I had it at 37 + 5 weeks, because baby was big (doc wanted to do it earlier, that was the compromise because he didnt trust my dates) no medical reason. My MW said that new research showed that the risks at 38 weeks are the same for VB or CS. It is probably the safest time to have an elCS. (or may be she just said that to make me confortable?)
We are both fine.

I had one at 38+ 2 for previa. I assume they didn't want to risk me going into labour.

One of the midwives told me that they don't really worry from 37 weeks on.

I'm also wondering about having a private scan to confirm the due date - if this differs from the one the NHS gave me, might it give me more of an argument?
Can they give you a new date date from a late scan (after 25 weeks?)

Dredging from memory I think the risk of breathing problems from an elcs is slightly less from 39+ weeks hence why some hospitals have started to say 39 weeks or more. Saying that I am booked for an elcs 38+5 because my dates were a day out and they didn't check my notes.

Can you go later in week 38? Mine was done 38+6 so just squeezing in. Consultant fine about it, just had to put something in notes to show risks had been explained. I didn't want to wait over the weekend given the strength of the BHs and practically for childcare arrangements it meant dcs were at nursery/school when having CS which meant dh could be with me and I'd be home for the weekend.

I did ask about him doing it right at the end of week 38, but he said something about the system not allowing him to do that. I will keep trying though. The end of week 38 is a weekend - anyone know if they can book you in on the weekend or does it have to be a week day for non emergency cases?

Cant another Consultant perform your CS?

I have no idea who will be doing mine (at 39+4). If I go into labour, I've just to go to hospital with my notes and have an (not very) emergency cs. In fact, I've not met a Consultant during this pregnancy - only two different registrars.

Last time, I had elective at 39+1 in other part of the country and didn't know beforehand who would be performing it.

I have no idea either whether my named consultant (whom I have seen once) will be present/performing my ELCS (at 38+6).

And like yama I have been told to go in for an EMCS if I go into labour before that.

Pixie i posted on the other thread re the 38+6 thing.

I had one at 38 weeks for SPD and potentially huge baby (she wasn't, was 7lb 6oz) and to be honest my consultant was no-where near the theatre. Are you sure your consultant is going to be performing the op?

Whatever happens, good luck.

Re: which day. Mine only did electives on Wednesdy or Fridays, so it may be similar at your hospital.

Never knew who either of my consutants were who did my 2 ELCS ti I met them on the day - definitey wasn't my actual consultant. Both were done at 39 weeks.

My hospital won't do an elective CS until i'm 41 weeks even though I had to had an emerency CS at 42 wks with my fisrt child because I wouldn't dialate beyond 3cms in 5 days after trying everthing that they had. After reading the above I think I'm going to demand to see my consultant again next week to book the CS in week 39 ( currently 35wks with PVD and in serious pain)
