Phlebitis in late pregnancy

Hi

Just wondered if anyone else had problems with this and if drs are treating with anything. I saw emergency doctor last night after getting concerned I might have a blood clot and she said phlebitis most likely and not prepared to treat with anti-biotics or anti-inflamatories (ie the normal treatment) while pregnant and just 10 days till due.

I keep having panicced flashes of emergency section through to heartattack though so despite a quite relaxed feel to the appointment at the time I have taken the news quite badly and could do with any extra advice.

Any advice appreciated, thanks

From memory I think it was checked at each apt at the time wold have been seeing midwife weekly.

Was consultant led care so when I saw him at 40 weeks I was booked for induction at 40+6 and I think this was part of the reason.

It was the only complication I had and didn’t suffer any dangerous consequences. Baby born safely.

Did have varicose veins in legs treated a few years later possibly connected.

Was sent home with clexane injections one per day for a couple of weeks.

All was well in the end so sending you lots of best wishes x

@Inpeace thank you so much for getting back to me! Where were they located? Mine are in my inner right thigh and I am so worried as it says online they can be dangerous is above the knee. Just in triage and they dont seem concerned at all about treating them. Were you only treated after giving birth?

Thanks
X

They gave a tube of a cooling gel but it was not to fix the problem but to take the burning / heat sensation away. Needless to say it didn’t help and the discomfort was not really my concern only any risks!

@Sjx89 I'm currently 38 weeks and I also have phlebitis! I've had it for a few weeks now and it's on the back of my upper thigh.

I saw the midwife who referred me to an out of hours doctor. The doctor gave me an ibuprofen gel to use if it gets too uncomfortable but it won't help healing.

After speaking to a couple of different doctors they told me to keep an eye on it and if it spreads, gets very hot to touch (infection) or more swollen then to get it checked again, but if it stays the same then it's nothing to worry about and although uncomfortable etc that it should go away as soon as baby is born and it's just one of the joys of pregnancy ☹️

@ChickenDipper28 ah sorry to hear it's so worrying isnt it!

What does yours look like? I have 4 rock hard lumps but they seem to have got a little larger and turned more blue since I was checked a few days ago. They dont feel any more painful just so unsure of what to do!

Doctor told me not to worry unless my whole leg swells and goes red... google doesnt seem to help with anxiety levels Blush x
