My dd took to her potty like a duck to water for wees (been 10 days now) but will not do a poo on the potty or toilet. When asked where to poo she says potty but waits untill your back is turned and sneeks off to do a poo in her pants - then tries to clean her self up!

Any ideas on how to get her to do it on the potty?

My dd was like this but got over it quite quickly - I seem to remember a bit of bribery was involved! I used to give her a fruit bar when she pood in the potty, but I think she was just as happy with the stickers she got at the childminder's.

Keep her pants off and let her see the poo fall on the floor, take her to get tissue paper and pick up poo herself and put it in the potty/toilet herself. I know its gross, but should only take a couple of times until the message gets through. Antibacterial spray at the ready!!

We've just been going through this with ds2. He's doing much better now. With him the trick was catching him at a time when he needed to go and then persuading him to spend long enough time on the potty. We had to introduce "potty stories" to give him the time to work out what to do.

It took us 3 months with DS2

Now he is great - a real professional pooper - it took lots of bribery, but he was only 2.3 when we started.

Good luck!

dd2 is doing this right now, it's only because I went through it already with dd1 I am v relaxed about it. I reward her with fancy knickers every time she agrees to poo in the toilet (have to catch her in the act) and then tell her if she poos in the knickers we'll have to throw them away. I think it'll take a few weeks but I'm fairly confident she'll have got it by the time she goes to school. good luck

DS1 was totally potty trained when nude by 14months (although put clothes on him and he's forget immediately - took another 10 months to sort that) The only thing was he would always ask for a nappy on when he wanted a poo and would not sit on pot for one though he would for wees. I read in a mag to put the nappy in the potty and get him to sit on and poo into the nappy, then move onto toilet roll in the bottom of the pot instead of the nappy. Sounds odd but it worked so perhaps you could skip the nappy stage and just see if she would poo on some paper in the potty.

erm we give chocolate for poos, and put dd on the potty, in front of her favourite tv programme, after lunch every day. Blatant bribery which I would never even have considered before we started potty training, but it's working well.
