Potty training

Pre-big toilet - what do you do when out and about?

We potty trained our 2 year old during lockdown and no big issues (thankfully!).

But now lockdown is easing slightly I am wondering what to do when out and about? When going to the park we’ve just taken her potty and it’s been fairy empty so haven’t worried about just putting him on potty.

But we are still at the need need to go!/instantly produce potty! stage and haven’t made it to the toilet (he’s small for his age and the toilet seat we bought is not comfortable).

What should we doing next? What do other people do when out and about?! I can’t remember seeing toddlers weeing in potties in theme parks or Zoos!

We got a carry potty and just used that. It worked well for us. Found somewhere discreet (behind a bush etc....) and with the carry potty if you cant empty it straight away it is contained.

I never carried a potty. Just accepted there would be the occasional drop everything and run for the loo. I'd hold them on the toilet in public loos. Toilet before leaving home. Toilet on arrival and then regularly for however long we were out.

We use a travel potty (potette or similar). Although not great for the environment since each wee is a plastic bag in the bin we only use it if there's no other choice and it's really handy because it folds flat to fit in a changing bag/backpack but can be produced very quickly when needed, and whatever is in it can be disposed of as easily as a nappy! They also act as a training seat so if you are near public loos can use them instead!

Just do short trips out first and wing it! I've seen more kids weeing in bushes than I have on a carry potty.

In the same position here and been out for first times this week! Potty in boot of car lined with nappy if no toilets open. I’ve got a fold up toilet seat that worked really well today, makes him feel safe on the big toilet. And make sure he goes before we go out etc

I developed a encyclopedic knowledge of all accessible loos in our area (including the access codes to the loos in coffee places).

I judged every trip by loo opportunities: 5 mins walk then past loo 1, the library, five more minutes then Sainsbury's, a few more minutes then Costa.

Occasionally I dangled her for a pee behind a tree in the park.

Usually we got home unscathed.
