Potty training

Potty training -- not exactly ideal

We started potty training about a month ago for DS (age 2 years 10 months).

After 6 days he would fairly reliably wee if you sat him on the potty, but still lots of accidents.

After about 2 weeks we were still having lots of accidents so we put him back into nappies.

BUT apparently he won't wee in a nappy either now.

In general, whether he is wearing a nappy or pants if he needs a wee or a poo (he has never managed a poo in the potty) he will run to the living room, take his nappy or pants off and wee or poo in a particular spot on the floor.

We continue to sit him on the potty regularly - mostly he will wee if we do that. Sometimes he doesn't want to sit on the potty but will go and wee on the floor a few mninutes later.

So:

Good things:

  1. He wees if we sit him on the potty
  2. He knows that he wants to wee or poo as he runs to the living room and takes his pants / nappy off before he wees or poos
  3. Not a lot of other weeing or pooing apart from on the living room floor (occasional other accidents but not many)
  4. Dry at night

    Not such great things:

  5. Sometimes he doesn't want to sit on the potty at all - and he gets upset if we try to sit him down
  6. He has never done a poo on the potty
  7. We appear to have potty trained him to wee and poo on the living room floor

    Things we have tried:

  8. a chocolate button for every wee on the potty (not a big success as he gets quite upset and wants more
  9. Watching telly on the potty to get him to sit for longer periods

We are out of ideas. Advice welcome.

Have you tried a sticker chart and reward basket of small treats bubbles, lollipop etc. A sticker for ever successful time on the potty and a prize from the basket for every 3 stickers once the chart is full a bigger reward something he really wants in our case a remote control car.
Good luck hope it clicks in to place for you all soon

Is the potty in 'that spot'? Have you tried going straight to the toilet and skipping the potty?
Although you're already doing better than me.
