We started potty training about a month ago for DS (age 2 years 10 months).
After 6 days he would fairly reliably wee if you sat him on the potty, but still lots of accidents.
After about 2 weeks we were still having lots of accidents so we put him back into nappies.
BUT apparently he won't wee in a nappy either now.
In general, whether he is wearing a nappy or pants if he needs a wee or a poo (he has never managed a poo in the potty) he will run to the living room, take his nappy or pants off and wee or poo in a particular spot on the floor.
We continue to sit him on the potty regularly - mostly he will wee if we do that. Sometimes he doesn't want to sit on the potty but will go and wee on the floor a few mninutes later.
So:
Good things:
- He wees if we sit him on the potty
- He knows that he wants to wee or poo as he runs to the living room and takes his pants / nappy off before he wees or poos
- Not a lot of other weeing or pooing apart from on the living room floor (occasional other accidents but not many)
- Dry at night
Not such great things:
- Sometimes he doesn't want to sit on the potty at all - and he gets upset if we try to sit him down
- He has never done a poo on the potty
- We appear to have potty trained him to wee and poo on the living room floor
Things we have tried:
- a chocolate button for every wee on the potty (not a big success as he gets quite upset and wants more
- Watching telly on the potty to get him to sit for longer periods
We are out of ideas. Advice welcome.
