Hi.
I'm looking for some advice from those who have succeeded in potty training their LO.
My DD is 2 years and 9 months old. We have attempted to train her to use the potty and toilet since last summer.
We have routines of going to the toilet in the morning, before meals and before bedtime. Rewarding her with stars for a chart and watching for signs that she is about to need to go. We have tried training pull ups and removed all of that and put her in proper pants in the hope that as it's less comfortable to wet yourself in those she'll prefer to use the toilet. We never stress at any accidents or wet clothes. Congratulate her etc at any signs of near or actual success however, our DD still doesn't voluntarily take herself to the toilet and unless prompted, 90% of the time seems to rather do everything in her pants. My worries are...what are we doing wrong? What could we do better? Any advice or guidance would be appreciated. Many thanks x

Give up for now.

We tried with our ds at just turned 3 and he couldn’t grasp it. Waited 6 months and he got it

I'd say wait a few months and try again. DS is 3.5, we tried a few months ago and it was a disaster. Wouldn't wee in the potty, would stand up from sitting on it and wet himself.

Day 1 of our second attempt today and it's completely different. We have had a couple of accidents but he's done several wees on the potty (a couple unprompted) and is clearly just much more on board with it. No guarantees we'll get it this time either of course but I feel pretty hopeful!

I'd wait till the weather warms up and try then!

Many thanks for your replies. Sometimes a bit of reassurance is all you need to breath, feel a bit of relief and try again later. I will take your advice

She is only two and not ready. Leave it and try again in a couple of months.

I tried with my daughter in November when she was 2y 10m and all she did was wee in her pants. My friend said to leave it and try again after Christmas. She did a wee voluntarily in the potty last weekend and has been in pants / joggers ever since (except over night and naps) but done brilliantly all week (just a handful of accidents). It's such a transformation - she had to be ready both in terms of wanting to do it but being able to pull her pants and trousers down herself is really helping her to be independent, particularly at nursery. I know it feels like you're under pressure to get it cracked when lots of toddlers seemed to be trained around 2.5, but all kids are different and there's no point in trying too early and ending up spending months over it.

Many thanks for all your advice. Felt a bit more relaxed after reading your comments. Also found a book call Oh Crap. It got me organised and after following its guidance, our DD has been dry (with a couple of accidents) since Monday. Fingers crossed for the coming weeks x
