Planning to see how the next week goes before going back to nursery. DS is 2 years and 9 months. Can wee and poo in potty, knows when he's going and tells us, and is going an hour or two between wees so I think he's ready. One accident so far.

I’m with you OP- I’m off work until 2nd so focusing from today! Currently DD 2.5 is walking round bottom half naked and just has some milk!
I have a raging cold and this may not be the best day but I understand there will always be an excuse not to start

Hello @OnlyFoolsnMothers sometimes it just has to be now doesn't it? Past experience has taught me that a concentrated few days at home is the way to go. Good luck! We've had lots more tiny accidents but poos and some wees in the potty. It's kind of what I expected for day 1. He doesn't seem to be able to do the full wee yet, letting go is the issue currently!

We’ve had 1 accident on the floor and a poo in her pull up at nap time (I think she held that in) nothing in the potty yetConfused it’s going to be a long few days. Are you following any particular method?

No not really, just put in pants and try the potty every so often. Try not to get stressed about accidents! What about you?

I just want to wish you all good luck.

Potty training was for us the worst experience. Worse than anything.

Make sure you up the fruit and veg so they don’t get constipated... also get an emergency bottle of calfig to keep things moving.

You DO NOT want your child constipated, and you must give them plenty of water.

Buy pants several sizes too big so them can take them down quickly.

Thanks @LightweightStroller good points. DS is my 4th, the first three weren't too bad so keeping my fingers crossed!

Trying the oh crap method- so naked yesterday and today- today was first pee in potty-she’s been saving poos for her pull up at nap time- seemingly holding herself in a lot- three wees on the floor yesterday. We persist ....most boring part is staying home- I’m going crazy

I must look that up, I have no method at all! Successful wee in potty before his nap thankfully. We went out for an hour (fully armed) and he stayed dry until a minute after we walked through the door. Hmm

@OnlyFoolsnMothers you need to make sure your DD doesn’t get constipated .... poop holding is a real nightmare.. I speak from (bitter) experience.

Boys don’t seem to do it as often but it can turn into a huge thing, really quickly.

Keep up the veg and fruit and lots of water, and get a bottle of calfig.

Get a portable potty. No need to stay in.
Going naked may seem a good idea, but no one lives like that and it’s best to live and dress normally I think. I have heard of adults who have to take all their clothes off to go to the loo..... not very sustainable going forward.

Good luck all.

We just had a poo in the potty- fabulous. Quick questions though- should I be wiping with toilet roll and not wet wipes still? (I’m not flushing them- in the nappy bin)

Tomorrow trying clothes and no underwear and then will try with knickers- following this technique as I’ve heard such positive results.
I went and bought Prune purée to mix with her yogurt- fortunately she loves fruit

Any recommendations for potties?

I was hoping to start potty training whilst off too but the potty I got (the boots one) is so tiny he absolutely hates it and looks like he hardly fits.

My daughter she got constipated after we started potty training. She's 3 and a half and still we have problems with her constipation. She does not wear nappy at all but still... 🙄

Hello, can I join? Making a concerted effort with my 2.11 yr old son. We’ve had a few previous tentative goes and a few successful wees on the potty before, but I think they’ve been down to luck.

So far this morning we’ve had about 5 accidents and 0 successful attempts!

After one accident he looked down at his wet leg and exclaimed: ‘oh no, I’m melting!’

That’s adorable @grandpoplar !

(What he said, not the accident itself)

We started this morning with DS2.9, we’d already introduced sitting on the potty to wee and he seems fine with that so far.

Zero understanding of pooing in the potty though - came to me a couple of times to tell me about farts, but did an actual poo in his pants and carried on playing 🤷‍♀️

Back at nursery on Thursday so bit of time pressure.

Welcome Grandpoplar ....Grin @ the melting comment!

Seemingly having the opposite problem to most, poos we get a warning and am able to get LO to her potty- wees I think she’s holding them in, she didn’t wee for nearly 3hrs this morning then she wet herself- but she doesn’t seem to be able to pee on a potty. I placed her on the potty a few times an hr after her milk and she did nothing, I ran the tap and nothing!

We bribed DS to sit there with mini Smarties and an iPad until the pee happened.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/12/2019 13:27

How long is that exactly? I do worry she will just end up thinking it’s a seat

Thanks for the welcome!

I think my boy got the ‘melting’ idea after seeing the ending of The Snowman the other day Smile

We just had our first wee in the potty! He declared that he was going to sit on the potty and he actually weed. Half of it went on the floor as he forgot to hold his willy down - but that’s progress after a morning of accidents!!
